For the first time in all her years of living with Emma Black, Carina woke up before her aunt. It came not only as a surprise to her but to Celeste as well. Emma Black was the epitome of all things graceful. Being unsociable was taboo in her life. Yet, Carina's aunt did not emerge from her quarters until 11 in the morning.
"ELEVEN IN THE MORNING?"
"Bloody hell, is this a joke?"
"I wake up at eleven on normal days, this isn't fair."
"I would make a shite pureblood"
What was even more surprising was that Narcissa visited with the sole purpose to talk to Emma Black. Narcissa never visited in the mornings. She was always far too busy.
"This is completely weird, did I mention that?"
"You did."
"I hope Auntie is fine."
"You said this too."
Cass glared at her cousin. "Be a little more worried. She's never been like this before."
"Yes, be more worried please."
Carina simply looked over from her copy of potions to assess her cousin. "She's fine Cassie, I found her last night. It's not much of a big occurrence. She'll be up and about by supper."
"NOT A BIG DEAL?"
"MERLIN" The great hall explodes once again, wondering how this little child could take such a tragic event so lightly.
"Why? What happened to her? Emma Black is far too well-mannered to leave in the middle of a Christmas Ball. I'm not an idiot Carina, don't treat me like one.", the tone of the young Lestrange took on a menacing edge to it. As sharp and deadly as a hunting knife. Seldom did it miss its mark.
"WOAH"
And yet, miss it did, for its mark was aimed at a Black that knew no fear for threats of tempers. Carina simply went back to her potion's essay as she answered the very concerned and fuming Lestrange. "It is nothing, Cassie, merely a tragic end to our unborn cousin."
The kitchen fell still. It wasn't simply Cassiopeia Lestrange that chose to shut up. The pots seemed to stop clanking and the sound of cutlery went muted.
"Now I feel bad for them", whispered a Hufflepuff.
The purebloods chose to ignore that.
Carina looked up from her potions essay again, sighed and rose to sit with her second cousin.
"She'll be fine Cassie, there will not be any permanent damage. Cissy sent for a witch from St. Mungo's last night. There really won't be anything to worry about."
"I wonder why she got so worried.", commented a Ravenclaw.
True, miscarriages were of common occurrence among pureblood members. It posed no threat whatsoever, and yet, Cassiopie Lestrange couldn't help but fight down a nasty feeling. After all, being the daughter of Bellatrix and Rudoulphus Lestrange, the rumours circling her mothers...state of mind certainly flew past her.
Most pureblood women took to the death of their unborn children with remarkable ease, yet there were those that seemed to go mad with grief. Born in a loveless marriage to one of the most influential families in the wizarding world. Bellatrix Black had little to fight for and even lesser to love. It seemed so that only her sisters were of any emotional attachment to the second child belonging to the noble house of the blacks. Sold off to another very influential family in marriage, there was very little that she lived for in life. Until she conceived her first child, and tragically, lost it just as fast. This seemed to have turned her mind into a state of disarray and frenzy.
It was exactly what Cassiopiea Lestrange was hoping to hide from. She wanted to make sure that madness wouldn't touch her.
The purebloods clenched in their seat, not liking how the film seemed to pour out their lives and secrets into a cask to be offered to those lesser wizards.
Whispers broke out into the Great Hall like hives. Sirius scratched his forearm and looked towards the Slytherin table. Mother, if only you'd cared enough for me and not my last name and house, perhaps you wouldn't have lost me so bloody painfully.
Emerge she did. Emma Black walked out of her room to dine for brunch as if nothing had ever happened. Carrying within her, another scar that would stay. The family made no mention of it and continued with their usual activities.
"What are we doing with our lives?"
"Theo, really?"
"No, I'm serious."
"No, you're Theodore"
Chuckles break out across the Great Hall at the lame, overused joke. Adelaide rolls her eyes as Sirius puffs his chest out.
"Carina !"
She looked back at him, right in the eye, and took a bite out of her sandwich. "Theodore."
Theo rolls his eyes and goes back to his game of chess with Zabini.
"Does that girl ever back down?"
"She's my daughter, there isn't a chance.", smirked Adelaide. Sirius-who was about to make a comment very similar- opted to simply scoff and roll his eyes. Adelaide, whose eyes missed nothing spoke, "Anything to say, Black?"
Regulus, thinking it was him she'd called out to open his mouth-
"I don't talk to scum Marquis"
It was when she'd laughed, and right there, the world stopped to listen. As did Sirius.
With a scowl on his face and a smile working its way into his heart.
"Quite doubtful looking at the company you keep"
She laughed again and this time, she was not alone as snickers and hoots flew into the air. It was only when James' face came back from red to white again and when everyone else had turned their attention back to the screen when Marlene heard it.
"Touche Marquis, Touche indeed."
A tiny piece of Marlene's heart chipped. What if.....

The next chapter won't have so much of what goes on in the movie as much as what happens in the great hall, I'm trying to build the story on both ends.
