Hoverboard Romance (Knuckles x Human! Reader)

Chapter 6: Incident and Jungle Race

Tails won the competition at Splash Canyon, the same place where Wave appeared and insulted the poor fox. But Y/N was there to the rescue and totally roasted the purple swallow. That's what she deserves being so mean and spoiled. But the human girl couldn't stop thinking about the legend of Babylon Rogues. A legend meant 'a made up story'. Each country had its own legends on Earth, especially the urban ones, which Y/N was so fascinated with. Even though the legends were made up by the folks, what if some were actually real? Some legends were impossible to be real, but it didn't mean that some of them weren't alive or real.

The team decided to split up god knows where. Knuckles and Y/N were always together so they were just peacefully walking hand-in-hand at Eggman's factory. Don't ask why. Knuckles was holding also his own red hoverboard under his free arm. Just as the couple walked past a green robot and were about to turn, Knuckles got suddenly bumped into a buffy figure. Y/N gasped as she realized that it was Storm!

The hoverboard was dropped as the red robot made some movements with his arms. Y/N just stayed back, scared of what would happen to Knuckles.

"Aaaah!" Both of the males pointed at each other in disbelief and anger.

"It's you!" Knuckles exclaimed in anger.

"I'll make sure to pay you back for this!" Storm really wanted to punch Knuckles and the red echidna took the challenge into his fists. 

Y/N helped Knuckles up fast as she then watched the commotion. "Hah! I let you get away last time, but definitely NOT today!" Y/N remembered the incident clearly what Knuckles meant.

"Why wait till later, you little punk? I'll pay you back tenfold, now!" 

Just as Knuckles was about to punch the albatross, he accidentally hit the red robot, causing Knuckles to feel awkward as he helped the robot. "Em, sorry."

Storm laughed. "Wa ha ha ha! What're you doin' you clumsy fool!? Was that supposed to be some kind of punch?"

Storm then took the strike since he badly wanted to punch the red echidna. Y/N was mad at Storm for calling names to Knuckles and she actually collected stones she found on Splash Canyon, deciding to mess with the Babylon Rogues. She's planning to throw one at Storm. 

"Nice try, buddy!" Knuckles quickly saw it coming and jumped out of the way because Storm punched the poor robot too hard that he sadly broke. But when Storm made a comment about how it wasn't his fault and if he didn't jump out of the way, then he would've clobbered. 

Excuse me?! Y/N thought angrily, sneakily holding a stone.

"Whaaat!!"

Just as Storm turned to face Knuckles while holding the robot's arm, a female voice spoke. "The race is about to start! All participants, please get to your position now!"

Knuckles growled as he faced Storm angrily. "Grr! The track then, we'll settle this there! "

"Looking forward to it!" Storm pointed out.

Just then, Y/N threw the stone, hitting right in Storm's face since she was very angry. Knuckles had a look of surprise and amusement. Storm couldn't believe what had happened. "That's what you get for calling my boyfriend weak!

After the race~

Knuckles managed to win and race and defeat Storm! Y/N watched this all happened, hoping that her boyfriend would win. And he did! He was now walking through the hallway of the exit with his hoverboard under his arm. He couldn't help but smile as he saw a female figure running toward him. It was Y/N. Knuckles began to run as well towards her and when he dropped his flying plank on the ground, he picked Y/N up and hugged her, hearing her lovely giggle as she hugged him back. 

Y/N pulled her face away and left a big passionate kiss on his lips, causing Knuckles to blush, even though he's red. "I'm so proud of you, my echidna hero."

Knuckles smiled softly and even dreamily. "Thank you, Y/N."

At the Green Cave~

The team was finally back together but this time at the Green Cave since the big final competition was much closer now. Sonic decided to learn tricks so the boys and Y/N stood back, watching the whole scene.

"The semifinal race will begin in 10 minutes! Please convene at the gate prior to that time."

Sonic then sprang, did a backflip, and landed on his feet while holding his hoverboard. Y/N couldn't help but giggle how Tails had stars in his eyes. He really did look up to his hero. She grabbed Knuckles' hand in hers, causing the echidna to look at her with a soft smile while catching up to Tails. "That's cool. Sonic! When did you learn those techniques?"

Sonic couldn't help but sheepishly chuckle. But then there's a voice heard of someone who they didn't want to see at all.

"Not very impressive for someone of your reputation," the voice began, mocking the blue hedgehog. 

Sonic and others turned to look where it came from and Sonic had a look of anger once he found who it was. Jet. "You..." He was on a tree like a true bird would do.

"You know, I've checked you out, actually. Not bad. I admit you're pretty fast on your feet. But here, it's a whole different story when riding with Extreme Gear! You see, to be the fastest on a Gear, you have to become one with the wind! Without wings, well you might as well kiss the ground and go home!" 

Y/N noticed how Sonic looked angrier by the second and how he wanted to fight Jet since he was insulting him. Y/N looked angry as well as others but then she realized that Gear can even fly without wings! She looked at Jet, furious. "That's not true!"

Jet only left and laughed. 

"Who does he think he is?" Knuckles asked in an angry tone.

Sonic shrugged. "Well, I don't think he's all talk, you know. I better be on my toes during this competition. 

Y/N looked and saw how Tails looked upset but determined at the same time. He must be thinking about what Wave once said to him and he promised his friends to unlock the secret of the Extreme Gear.

Y/N sighed softly but looked serious. "I will be racing this time."

Everyone looked at her, Knuckles being worried and shocked. But before he could reply, Y/N stuck her hand out in the air like a Pharoah, signaling to be quiet. "Just trust me."
