Hoverboard Romance (Knuckles x Human! Reader)

Chapter 3: Training and Chaos Emeralds

"A hoverboard!" Tails exclaimed excitedly after Y/N asked to repeat again what it was. 

"What does it do?" Knuckles asked.

Tails eventually went on a full explanation. The hoverboard was (obviously) a board that was like a car, used for racing or for fun. The board needed some special gas in order to it to move. No, it was not gas but the battery. Y/N saw the hoverboard a lot like a skateboard from her world. What did you expect? 

"You need special shoes for it because regular ones could cause you to fall unless you are brave and have balance," Tails shrugged his shoulders. 

Later~

Knuckles and Y/N made it back to Angel Island and this time, they were helped by Tails since both of them got their own hoverboards. Knuckles had his usual red color while Y/N had F/C. Knuckles knew a grass area where they could try it out and train. Tails said that he plans to make one for himself, Amy and Sonic. Knuckles' big concern was Y/N's safety since he was her boyfriend. Since the hoverboard was almost like a skateboard to Y/N, she made sure to wear protective gear around her knees and elbows. If she got this all under her control, she would use it without the gear but she will bring it with her just in case because you never know. Tails explained that the hoverboards would activate if you step on them. 

Knuckles and Y/N were prepared to start. They set their hoverboards down but they couldn't start at the same time. Knuckles decided to watch and help Y/N. He wanted to catch her in his arms if she fell like a knight in shining armor. He walked up to her. "Ready?"

Y/N nodded and that's when Knuckles grabbed her hand in his gloved one. Y/N took a deep breath and stepped on her hoverboard, causing it starts working immediately. "Whoa! That's so cool!"

Knuckles found it secretly cool as well but he was a stubborn echidna for showing his expressions or emotions. He kept still holding Y/N's hand, worrying about her safety and if she would fall. The hoverboard was still close to the ground luckily instead of high in the air. People would lose control if they looked down or realized that they were high in the air. That caused so many accidents. Y/N explained to Knuckles that it was normal to get wounded if trying something new like rollerskating. But some wounds would go far that they would be accidents. 

Y/N wobbled a bit as she was trying to be brave enough to stand straight but also kneeled a bit. She was grateful that her boyfriend was by her side. She felt already nervous inside, especially in her heart. it was so clear. But as she stopped wobbling, she felt more confident and straightened herself up a bit. She put a brave determined smile on her face. "Let go of my hand, Knuckles!"

"Are you sure?" Knuckles was hesitating but he trusted Y/N would take care of herself. I mean, she was still on her way to being an adult, so she was still developing. Knuckles was also still developing to be an adult. Rouge was 18 and the only one in the group an adult. 

"Yes!"

Knuckles slowly let go of her hand as he feared that she would wound herself or something. He watched how Y/N's hoverboard was slowly flying forward. He saw how determined she looked. But then to his amazement, she was doing all of this well! She had her perfect balance and did not lose anything at all. He couldn't help but throw his fist in the air, feeling proud of his girlfriend. "Go, Y/N!"

Y/N giggled as she heard her boyfriend cheering for her. She felt so good as she continued to fly. She made sure to not go far so that her echidna wouldn't lose sight of her. She carefully drifted and managed to turn around and fly back to her boyfriend, who had a proud expression on his face. Once she arrived, she jumped out and caught her hoverboard under her arm. "So, how was it?" She felt sheepish.

"It was amazing! You did awesomely!"

Later~

Days passed ever since the couple got their hoverboards and trained. They got everything under their knees and did cool tricks! Yes, they failed and it was normal. Mistakes could be learned. Knuckles had fun instead of guarding the Master Emerald. He was missing the fun and he needed it. He made sure still to guard the giant emerald since he didn't want to break his tribe's promise. 

While nothing new happened, they got a call from Tails. It was urgent and important. Knuckles heard how Tails was serious so he immediately went there with Y/N. After they arrived, Sonic was there as well. 

"What's wrong?" Y/N asked as she stood next to Knuckles. 

"It's about Chaos Emeralds. We need to search them," Sonic explained simply.

"And where?" Knuckles asked, determined this time. He had a passion for finding the emeralds and for a unique reason, he could track their energy.

"Well, that's the problem. It's like in Metal City, where the hoverboards are active."

Knuckles didn't understand what was wrong with it, same with Y/N. Yes, Metal City was like the future city where everything was modern. It was also like the future of humanity.

Knuckles simply said then: "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"

The others agreed and so their journey began... But they would run into trouble as the Chaos Emeralds would get stolen. Not only that but since Eggman was again on the loose, they need to find all of them. Tails had a special tracking device he made to track all of them. The team went off...
