Chae-eun POV

October 15, 2020:

...Andddd..done!  I close my diary after completing today's entry. Who knows...maybe today will have more than one.

I sit with my pen in hand, waving it back and forth.

I raise my view to the clock across the classroom and squint as far as my eyes allow, in attempt to read it. 12:04 pm.

Just 16 more minutes. I sigh in frustration.

I'm counting down seconds until this class ends. Next period is lunch. Haerin and I planned on eating in the garden today. She's going to show me some of her paintings. I examine my surroundings.

Days like these are the best, I honestly can't wait for lunch, not only to get out of here but to see Haerin. We only go to the garden on special occasions since the scenery isn't something that should be wasted on nonsense. I convinced her to have lunch at the garden so we could have a picnic-type lunch while she shows me her art.

I rest my chin on my palm and stare at the blackboard, barely comprehending my teacher's words. My eyelids and head get heavier as the minutes go by. My head drops and jerks back up multiple times before I finally give up and rest my head on the desk. Perks of sitting in the second to last row!

"Chae," I hear a whisper, I snap my head up to see no one speaking to me. "Chae-Eun" this time I can tell which direction it comes from. I turn to my right and glare at Sunoo, as he acts innocent.

"I'm trying to listen to the teacher, Sunoo."

No, I'm not.

"No, you're not," He says rolling his eyes at the fact that I've literally been fighting my sleep this entire class.

"Chae-Eun, do you want to eat lunch with my friends and I?" he continues whispering to me,

"I'd love to Sunoo, but I'm eating with my cousin today..." I say, showing him my apologetic eyes. Sunoo nods and turns straight ahead. 12:12. Ugh. Why does it always feel like ages until lunch?

"Chae!" I hear the whisper again.

"Sunoo," I whisper back

He give a cheeky smile, "Nothing!" I roll my eyes and turn back to the teacher.

Ding Ding Ding

The class immediately shoots up from their seats, rushing to their lunch destination.

Haerinnie : Chae-aaaaa~~~ COME TO THE GYMNASIUM NOW!!!!

Me: OKAY OKAY.

I sprint toward the gym, that's located at the other side of the school. Once Haerin is in sight, I yell out to her. I slow down my pace, out of breath.

"CHAE-AH!" Haerin collides into me at full speed, and hugs me a little too tight.

"Hae..I can't breath" I say, my voice strained.

She immediately releases her tight grip around my body. We calm down after a bit, and begin walking to the garden. With our fingers intertwined swinging our hands back and forth.

"OH OH, are you coming to my house tonight?" I tense at her words.

Things between Heeseung and I are still a bit awkward to say the least.

"Uh..yea. Why wouldn't I?" I chuckle, to make it less obvious that I'm a bit uncomfortable.

I don't want Haerin to think it's her fault for the way things turned out between Heeseung and I. We're all family in the end.

Haerin skips happily toward our spot in the garden with her ankle length skirt flowing behind her, dragging me along as well, not nearly as gracefully. We sit in silence with the food my mom made for the two of us.

"Where's Ni-ki?" I ask looking around for the troublesome boy.

"He's eating with his friends," She replies simply.

"He has friends other than us?!" I sarcastically joke, as if I'm shocked.

She laughs at my words, "I think it's someone named..." she closes her eyes and furrows her eyebrows trying to figure out their name.

"Sunoo! And two others, but I don't recall him telling me their names," she shrugged.

I snap my head to her. "Oh! Sunoo! He's my close friend! He asked me if I'd eat lunch with him today, but of course I wouldn't leave you to fend for yourself." I elbow her jokingly.

Haerin rolls her eyes before digging into her bag and pulling out different folders, and a canvas. I admire her talent. I admire her. My family is...admirable? Haerin's a strong girl. She's creative, funny, confident, bubbly, everything you'd want to be surrounded with. It sometimes haunts me that Claire dimmed that light within her for some time, and that I was partially to blame for not noticing.

"I worked on this for about..." she pauses to think "7 hours!"

I'm astonished and the amount of time and effort she put into her beautiful art. Her talent is incredible. The painting is abstract, yet precise. Gloomy, yet bubbly. Opposites upon opposites, contrasting details cover the canvas as a whole. It's as if an entire story line is put on this one canvas.

"It's amazing!" I shout enthusiastically, my voice echos. "Chae-Eun keep it down!" Haerin whisper-yells with wide eyes. We stare at each other for a second, then burst into laughter before setting out the picnic blanket Haerin stores with her art supplies for days like this. We spend the rest of lunch talking and laughing, like we have since we were kids.

I know I'll miss these days.
