Lee Chae-Eun

I wake up feeling more groggy than usual. I sit up on my bed, aggressively rubbing my face. I garb my phone to check the time

8:45 AM

Oh. My. God.

I jump out of bed, and sprint to my closet. I am 30 minutes late for school.

Why didn't my alarm go off?!

"MOM? DAD?" I shout for my parents hoping they'd be able to drive me to school, but to my dismay, they'd already went their separate ways for work.

"Wait-" I say to myself, getting the most brilliant idea I'd ever had.

I figured, if my parents get called about how late I am, I can just tell them I didn't feel well and woke up late for school.

I'll just tell them some sob story about how I fought through my discomfort and realized school was too important to miss!

"Wow...maybe I should be an actress instead of an author," I laugh at my own muttered joke.

I do my morning routine, taking my sweet time, as I'm on my own schedule now.

I straighten out my school uniform before looking in the full body mirror proudly.

I grab my schoolbag, put on my shoes, and walk out the front door with my head held high with confidence.

I'd like to call it 'fashionably late'.

I grab my phone out of my uniform blazer pocket to check which stop the next bus to my school area will go to, I also just happen to realize I had a missed text from Haerim.

                      7:55 AM

Haerimie: where are you?

Haerimie: it's been 10 mins. girl hurry up.

Haerimie: I'm leaving without you.

                      9:48 AM

Me: i woke up late.

I jog to the nearest bus stop, which conveniently is the one with a route in the same direction as the school.

I sit under the bus stop shelter and take my headphones out of my bag before connecting them to my phone and playing music.

The bus arrives shortly after I sit down, and I walk onto the stairs, swipe my bus card, then walk to the nearest empty seat.

Just the row across from mine, I saw a student laying his head on the window. I take this opportunity to examine him.

I guess he was late as well... I snort at this thought before noticing a small detail about him.

He's wearing my school's uniform... But, I've never seen him before. I ponder his identity for the remainder of the bus ride not noticing we've arrived at my stop.

"Uh..we're here," the boy who's clothes nearly mirror mine informs me.

Who is he?
