"Happy birthday, Invidia," my boss, Ben, said as I walked through the doors of the little music store I worked at.
"Thanks, Ben," I smiled at him as I clocked in.
"I can't believe you volunteered to work on your 21st birthday," Ben said shaking his head. "You're mental, you know that?"
I laughed. "Well, what else was I supposed to do? I'd most likely end up being here anyway considering you and Luke are my only friends." Luke was Ben's younger brother who also worked with us.
"That is true," Ben smirked as he disappeared into the storage room.
I busied myself with tidying up the shelves when I heard the bell above the door jingle.
"Happy birthday to you," Luke started singing, "happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Invidia, happy birthday to you."
"Shut up, loser," I laughed while fake punching him on the shoulder.
"Bitch, you're supposed to be thanking me," Luke said clutching his chest, pretending to be insulted.
"You can't act," I told him as I walked away to continue working.
"Good, you're here," Ben said to Luke as he walked out of the storage room, his arms full with boxes of CD's. "You two can stack these for me." He put the boxes down on the counter before disappearing out the back again.
"I'm taking you to a party tonight," Luke told me as we grabbed a box each.
"You're taking me to someone else's party on my birthday?" I asked with a laugh.
"Well, you didn't want a party, so what was I supposed to do?" Luke asked.
"I didn't want a party because the only people there would've been you and your brother," I reminded him. "In case you haven't been listening to a word I've said the last four years I've known you, I'm shit at making new friends and I'm not exactly popular in my journalism class."
"Then stop complaining about me taking you to my friend's party," Luke retorted.
"Urgh, fine," I sighed.
"Yus!" Luke cheered. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Dude!" I exclaimed as I opened my box. "We've got the new All Time Low CD's in!"
"Take one," Luke told me with a smile. "Consider it a birthday present."
"You're the freaking best!" I squealed as I ran over to give him a hug.
"Yeah, and don't you forget it," he replied as he hugged me back.

"I'll be at yours at six," Luke told me as we left the store, "which means be ready by six not start getting ready at six."
"Yeah, yeah," I waved him off making my way to my car. "See you then, loser."
I heard Luke laugh as he got to his car. I got into mine and we both drove off. Once I got to my apartment, I threw my keys onto the table and rushed to my wardrobe. I had two hours to get ready. I decided on my tight black pencil skirt and a mint green singlet. I lay them on my bed before finding my black pumps and putting them at the end of my bed. I then went and got a quick shower. When I got out, I blow dried my short, blonde hair and curled it a bit. Then I did my make up - foundation, contour, blush, dark eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara and red lipstick - before actually getting dressed. By the time I was done it was 5:55. I walked into the living room to find Luke sitting on my couch.
"What is this?" he gasped. "You're ready on time?"
"Shut up," I replied. "When did you get here?"
"When you were drying your hair," Luke said picking up a beer from on the table.
"And you're stealing my beer?"
"Yup," he replied popping the p. "Shall we go then? You look nice by the way."
"Okay and thanks," I smiled, "so do you."
"Flattery will get you nowhere," Luke smirked.
"Be quiet and take me to this party," I demanded playfully.
"As you wish," Luke laughed.
