Notes
What if Hiccup was the one who was taken by Cloudjumper on that night?
(Valka fell ill or something and isn't alive in this fanfic)
No I don't own How to Train Your Dragon
One last thing: I like to picture the characters how they look in the third movie at the age of 21, but you can imagine them however you want

"Hiccup!" Valka reached out, trying to grab her son from the dragon's claws.
Stoick stormed into the room only to see his wife on her knees, face in her hands.
"No... NO!" He yelled then threw his axe toward the dragon who was carrying away his son, just missing.
Hiccup reached out toward his parents, crying and screaming, lost...

21 Years Later
"Toothless! Get your butt over here!" I shouted, the sound echoing off the ice.
In less than thirty seconds, a black dragon had run into me.
"OHHHHH" I exclaimed as I was pushed over and covered in slobber.
"Hey!" I pushed Toothless off of me and stood up, trying to shake the dragon slobber out of my clothes. "You know that doesn't wash out."
Toothless made a laughing warble and sat in front of me.
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we're all out of your favorite fruit, bud..."
Toothless looked at me with big, sad eyes and cooed quietly.
"...And so we're going to get more." I finished. Toothless shot up and gave me a gummy smile, wagging his tail.
I laughed. "Give me just a second to get my armor."

Before I knew it, we were leaving the icey sanctuary and flying away.
I had my dragon scale armor on, complete with my flying mask. I had packed my saddle bags with food, supplies, and weapons for the trip.
I didn't actually know the name of the island we were going to, but it had some kind of fruit Toothless liked. We've only ever found it growing there.
We had been peacefully gliding through the air before Toothless suddenly stopped and looked around.
"Toothless? What is it bud?" I looked around but didn't see or hear anything.
Toothless made a low growl.
Then, out of nowhere, a Monstrous Nightmare came flying right at us.
Something must have spooked him, cause he had set himself on fire and was flying out of control.
"Dive, Toothless!" I yelled, trying to get away from the Nightmare. Toothless roared and tucked his wings.
We dodged out of the way just one second too late. Toothless's prosthetic tail piece had caught on fire and was burning into pieces.
Suddenly, were falling toward an island I've never been to before, and we were falling fast.
I fell out of the saddle and Toothless roared, trying to grab me but we were falling away from each other.
I looked down to see a beach. I tried to angle myself to land in the water.
I held my breath and dove into the shallow end. It wasn't enough and I blacked out.

I woke up on the water's edge to someone nudging me. The cold waves from the ocean were crashing into my side.
"Are you awake?" I opened my eyes to see a girl crouching next to me, nudging me gently.
I groaned and tried to get a better look at the girl. She had a panicked expression.
I held my hand up to my face and realized my mask was still on.
Turns out I must've landed on my shoulder, because it was pounding like I've never felt before.
I got up, laying back on my elbows, and looked at the girl. She had long, blonde hair and azure blue eyes. She looked to be about my age, maybe slightly younger.
"Oh Thor, he's alive!" She gasped
"Who are you? Are you okay? What happened to you?" She kept asking more and more questions, none of which I could answer because my mind was still racing.
"Astrid, he just woke up." I heard a rough voice behind me.
I turned my head to see a big, tall viking with a long, red beard and a stern face.
"Sorry chief." The girl said.
She stood up and held her hand out in front of me.
I slowly reached my gloved hand out, taking hers, and she pulled me up.
"Ugh..." My head was pounding and I could hardly think straight. The girl held my shoulders, helping me stand up straight.
"So," The other viking said, "Who are you?"
I turned around to face him, rubbing my aching shoulder. "Uhh..." I tried to put the right words together.
Another man came up beside the red-haired viking. "Give him a second Stoick, it looks like he took a pretty bad hit to the head."
This new viking had a peg leg and a hook hand. His clothes were dirty with oil and grime.
He must be the blacksmith.
I took a deep breath and collected my thoughts. "Uh... I'm Hiccup." I managed to say, still holding my arm.
The vikings paused and looked at each other, eyes wide.
Even though the blonde girl was behind me, I could tell she had the same expression.
There was a long moment of silence.
"And you are...?" I gestured to the vikings.
"Er, I'm Gobber, and this here's Stoick the Vast, chief of Berk." Gobber put his hand on Stoick's shoulder, stepping up.
"And that behind you is Astrid Hofferson." Gobber pointed to her with his hook.
Astrid walked up to stand beside Gobber.
I looked over to see Stoick had a new expression on his face, one I couldn't quite read.
"Alrighty then, let's get you off of this beach, and to our healer." Gobber said. "But first, did you wanna take your mask off?"
I thought about it for a moment. I don't know these people, and they had already reacted strangely when I told them my name. It's probably safer to keep the mask on for now.
"Uh... No, thanks..." I replied. Gobber didn't seem to like that answer, but he didn't say anything.
"Let's go then."
