Doubt

After the lunch date with Ms Claire I decided to head to The Archives and have a date with my forlorn undead boyfrien- oh yeah…we haven’t formally gone there yet. I could have just go I took the back stairs from the new building towards the main building where the passageway was, hoping to finally smoke him out of his hiding place. I was cautious this time as well.

Making sure that the substitute didn’t pick up on me sneaking through one of the tapestries, I quickly ran down the spiraling stairway to find Yuuzel hunched over his books and sleeping on the long table. My heart lodged up to my throat that moment, as my eyes caught a glimpse of his back while I ran down the stairs. His dark hair unraveled riotously mixing with the dusty air down the Archives.

I didn’t wanna disturb him, so I garnered every ounce of stealth imaginable to sit myself into an empty chair adjacent to him.

“There’s a chair right here by my side…” he mumbled in his sleep.

“Oh. I thought you were…asleep…”

Yuuzel rubbed his eyes and stretched out his arms lazily. And then he smiled…Brilliant.

“Have you come to return my journal?” he asked, rubbing his temples.

“No. I came to tell you about …my date this weekend.” Smirk.

Yuuzel froze in the middle of yawning and stretching his arms. Smirk. It was a very memorable sight to see.

“Uh…a-a date? Really?”

“Yes really.” Grin… grin… grin….

“Someone actually asked you out? Who would’ve known that there were still people who possessed such great bravery?” He accentuated with his frail hands for greater dramatization.

I slapped Yuuzel in the shoulder and kicked my chair out of the long table.

“Well most people would be afraid to try and steal a vampire noble’s girl from him. I’m just saying…” he scratched at his nape and broke into a sly laughter.

Freakin’ vamp’s getting the best of me.

“And whoever gave you that idea?” I crossed my arms trying to look full of herself but all were in vain. “I don’t remember ever agreeing to be your girl.”

Yuuzel reached out a hand and began tracing circles around my eyes.

“How long have you had trouble sleeping?”

“I..I don’t know…Yuu?”

“hm.”

“May I ask you something?”

“hm.”

“I know I asked you something like this before but…who-who do you like better? Among the three of us.” I gazed down on my uniform and fumbled a little with my fingers.

“Three of you?”

“Y’know…Emeraldie, Amber and me…Ruby.”

Yuuzel chuckled and threw his head up, resting it over the high-backed chair.

“There is but one of you, sweet. “

I dug my fingers into the plait of my skirt. Freakin vamp’s not answering my question…

“But…but…you can’t like all versions of me. I don’t have their memories and neither do I have their characters – “

“No.No. You are more yourself than you’d probably realize. You are now as you were before…Not only in my eyes but also in your soul. That is why you are one and the same, Ruby. Believe me.”

I did…more than I’d ever want to admit… And it was this thought that roamed around my head when I got out of The Archives and had gotten home. Mom was waiting for me at the foyer. I got to my room, skipped dinner and waited for sleep to creep its way into my eyes.

I’d believe in Yuu no matter what.
