Perseverance (Wangxian)

Chapter 31 - Something Special

"Xichen-Ge," Wei Wuxian said as he spotted him headed to his place, Hanshi.

"A'Xian, I thought you'd be with Wangji," he told him.

"He is with his uncle at the moment," Wei Wuxian told him, "plus it does give me a chance to talk to you for a moment."

Xichen smiled, "he does make it difficult for you two to split for five minutes, doesn't he?"

"Sometimes, but sometimes it's me as well," Wei Wuxian admitted.

"Thanks for your honesty," Lan Xichen said, "come in."

Wei Wuxian nodded and followed him inside, "I have to admit, your place looks a bit more homey, than Jingshi...not that it isn't, Lan Zhan is just so clean," he told him sitting at the table.

"He's been that way for a long time," Xichen said, "so what did you want to talk about?"

"Actually, I have been wanting to do something nice for Lan Zhan but I'm trying to figure out what to do," Wei Wuxian explained, "I thought maybe I would ask you for advice."

"That's thoughtful of you," Xichen told him, "not many people really offer him gifts, per-say. Though he is not one to celebrate many occasions either, so he is hard to figure out for most people."

"I mean I-" he began to say but then cut himself off. Wuxian was surprised that he isn't offered much from others nor does he ask for anything, "does he really not ask for anything? Ever?"

Xichen thought for a moment then shook his head, "no, not that I'm aware of. I think the last time he accepted anything were those bunnies from you that are in the back hills," he told Wuxian.

Wei Ying smiled, "at the time, he wouldn't even take them, it was a bit mean but I had to con him into it. I'd say that I'll go give them to someone else to roast but he stopped me and said killing is forbidden here. Then I said I'll go down the mountain. He growled at me and told me to leave them with him," Wuxian explained.

Xichen laughed, "that is a bit harsh for the bunnies. Now there are dozens of them," he said.

"I saw that," Wei Ying said.

"So, when it comes to getting him something or doing something nice, do you have any thoughts at the moment?" Xichen asked.

"Well, something I invented recently is a charm to put onto two people; Preferably soulmates. It can detect if one of them is hurt or in danger and alert the other person. It will create a mark on the skin of the wrist. The mark will symbolize the two people and it will glow and have a slight sting to it if the person is in danger," Wei Ying explained.

"That would be very handy, especially on Wangji's behalf. He is always worried about you and his fear is losing you again. So that would give him a peace of mind," Lan Xichen admitted and liked the idea.

"I am glad you like it," Wuxian said, "I also thought maybe a picnic but I am a terrible cook and I would have no idea where we would go."

Xichen laughed, "I have heard stories from the juniors about your cooking," he said, "I wouldn't mind helping with that, as I do know his favorite meal. And there is a place that I know just outside the border of Caiyi Town. I can give you directions for you to take a look. If you think it's good, then I can help you set something up for the two of you."

"You're the best, you know that," he praised.

"Oh, stop the flattering," Xichen told him, "I'm happy to help. Especially if it involves Wangji. You are the only person to see him for who he really is, and I am very grateful for that. I'm happy that he has someone like you in his life. You are someone so bright and cheerful that he needs something by like that. Plus, I did get him to tell me he fell for you the first night he met you. He fell for your smile."
