"Katy?" Destiny called, walking downstairs with a dead phone in hand. "Kate?" There was no answer again. Destiny cursed having such a hug house and called her mother again. "MUM?"

At the use of the word 'mum', there was an immediate response. Katy had felt a wave of panic flow through her. Destiny never called her 'mum', so her anxieties exploded into a frenzy.

"What? What is it? What's wrong?" Katy babbled, flying to Destiny's side in an instant. Usual this would be funny to Destiny, but not now. Now she wasn't happy.

"My phones dead." She stated bluntly. Katy stared at her for a second before releasing the breath she was holding.

"You yelled for that?" She gasped, leaning against the wall. "You scared me!"

"Well sorry," Destiny replied with attitude. "But it's all your fault my phones dead! It's been ringing off the hook! Again! I've had to keep it on today, but now it's died and I still don't have what I need!"

Katy raised her eyebrows at Destiny and stood up straight again. Her arms crossed neatly over her chest. This was Katy's 'Mum Mode', as Shannon liked to call it.

"Well I'm sorry about that, Destiny, but I don't see how it's my fault your phone keeps dying." She stated calmly.

"Who's my dad, Katy?" Destiny demanded loudly, glaring at Katy. This took Katy off guard and she took a stumbled step back.

"Wh-what does that have to do with anything? It won't fix your phone," Katy stammered worriedly.

"Actually, yes it will! Do you know what it's like having man after man ring me up telling me he's my dad! It's hell! If you'd just tell me-" Destiny cried, but was cut off by Katy.

"NO!" She snapped furiously, glaring back now "I've told you before, and I'll tell you again; leave it alone. Don't answer those calls, we'll change your number again if you'd like. You don't have a father."

"YES I DO!" Destiny yelled back. "Why won't you tell me, Katy? It's been three years now... You told me you spent years looking for me. How do you know he isn't too? Katy, I've let this go for three years now, I deserve to know something! Before, I didn't care. I was completely happy with you, I was simply curious to know who he is. But lately..."

A silence fell on them. Katy felt her heart tighten and twist into painful nots. So painful she could barely force her next words out.

"Lately what?" She choked, her eyes glistening with crystal tears. "Am I not good enough for you? Am I doing it wrong? Did you stop l-lov-" Katy stopped there, crying too much now to speak.

"No!" Destiny cried, horrified as she realized what Katy was thinking of. "Katy, thats not what I meant at all! Never! I just-"

"Don't." Katy whispered desperately as she began turning away. "I don't want to hear it. No more about your father, Destiny. I've told you I don't want to tell you and I'll never want to tell you. I've moved on, so should you."

"Move on from what? I don't know anything to move on from!" Destiny yelled in exasperation, but Katy was already walking away from her. "Katy? Katy, stop! I'm not finished yet!"

Katy didn't stop, which infuriated Destiny further. She grabbed her coat and stood by the door, her face a picture of pure anger.

"Fine, be like that!" She screamed and left, slamming the door behind her.

Katy winced at the noise from where she was standing in the kitchen, desperately clutching the counter for support. Sobs erupted from her lips once it sunk in that Destiny had really left. What had she done? They never fought, not ever.

"Come back," Katy whispered as she sunk to her knees. "I need you. Come back..."

It was hours later and the sky was shifting to twilight when Katy finally struggled to support herself to the phone. She dialed Shannon's number with shaking hands.

"Hey, Kate!" Shannon's cheerful voice filled Katy's head. "How's it going?"

Katy didn't answer, her voice shook and she choked on her sobs. She felt helpless and vulnerable, not something she enjoyed.

"Katy? Are you still there? What's wrong?" Shannon demanded, suddenly scared for her best friend.

"Come?" Katy pleased, choking the word out. "Please?"

"Of course, Katy! Of course!" Shannon reassured quickly. "I'm on my way!"

Shannon was at Katy's door in less than ten minutes, anxiously letting herself in. She didn't bother knocking, assuming that Katy would know who it was. Katy didn't.

"Destiny?" Katy cried as she heard the door opening. "Baby?" Her head was hovering about the floor, which was taking all her energy just to keep it up, with the prospect of her daughter being safe. Her face when she realized it was Shannon could have broken anyones heart.

"No, Katy...it's only me..." Shannon whispered, her eyes filling with tears. Katy began sobbing hysterically. Shannon rushed to her side, cradling Katy in her arms. "What happened, Kate? Where's Destiny?"

"I-I-I d-don't know," Katy sobbed. "We f-f-fought and she l-l-left. It was h-hours ago."

"But you guys never fight! How did this happen?" Shannon cried in shock. Katy didn't answer for a moment, trembling at the idea of relieving the experience.

"H-her dad. She w-wants to k-know h-h-her dad," Katy cried and covered her face with her hands. Shannon stayed silent, simply rocking Katy backwards and forwards. She knew Katy wouldn't like her opinion and, right now, it wouldn't help...

"We'll find her," Shannon soothed in a whisper. "She'll come home, I promise you..."
