"Hush little baby, don't you cry,
The man in the dark just wants a bite,
It doesn't matter, 'cause you look like hell,
And nobody loves you, you might as well""You know we have to talk, right?" A voice snapped Destiny back to reality. She physically jolted, causing her tea to slosh over the rim of her cup in irritation.
She looked up with darting eyes, trying to meet Katy's and failing. She gave a tight nod in reply. Katy's expressive blue eyes searched hers desperately. It had been a long time since she had been shut out by her daughter.
"Little kitten, what happened last night?" Katy practically begged for the answer. "I need to know, baby."
"I already told you last night," Destiny struggled to make her voice work. "I found a party, had a drink, and got lost. Then Shannon found me. That's all."
"One, you did more than just 'have a drink', Destiny. You were completely off you head! Two, that doesn't explain why you were so dirty and so scared," Katy pointed out, reaching for Destiny's hands across the table. Destiny moved them away, forcing them around the hot mug instead and bringing it to her lips. She couldn't stomach taking a sip though.
"I don't remember! I think I fell? How can you expect me to remember, when I was apparently 'off my head'!" Destiny yelled at Katy, causing her to be taken aback.
"Destiny," she snapped, turning on her parenting voice. "I do not expect you to speak to me like that. You are the one in the wrong here, not me. I need to know what happened so that I can make an appropriate decision on how to punish you for the stunt you pulled.".
"I'm in the wrong? I'm in the wrong? This is all your fault! Don't you remember what happened? It's all your fault, Katy! All of it, and I hate you!" Destiny raged, she ran from the room. Her cup danced on the edge of the table before falling to the ground. The contents spilled put as the mug turned go shards around Destiny's chair.
Kate stared at it, not able to process what just happened. What was she supposed to do now? She was terrified to punish her daughter in case she pulled another disappearing act. Destiny had come home drunk this time, they had got off lightly really. Anything could have happened. Or worse, she could have not come home at all...
Destiny stood, looking at herself in her full-length mirror. She had stripped off her clothes and was taking in her battered body for the thousandth time that morning. She was black and blue all over. Some parts more than others, parts that definitely should have been left alone.
"Oh god," she whispered fearfully. "Oh god, oh god, what do I do now? Katy will flip..." She cursed then, not something she liked to make a habit of. "I just won't say anything. It's nothing, not a big deal. Better to just ignore it. I'll be fine. Absolutely... fine..."
So Destiny went about her normal, everyday like. Her and Katy were speaking by the end of the day, and despite their relationship becoming slightly more strained than before, they were pretty much okay. Destiny thanked the lord that Katy bad given up pushing for her to open up about that awful night, accepting that Destiny really had just become roaring drunk. The night never left Destiny though. It was at the back of every though. That sleezy smile on every guy. Those sinister eyes peaking out of every bush.
It wasn't until a few weeks later that Destiny was forced face that dreadful night again.
"Hello there, girly!" A male voice happily called out to Destiny as she walked across her college campus.
She recognised the voice, but struggled to place where from exactly. Her blood ran cold, her heart raced, and she found herself speeding up, a blind panic beginning to take over.
"Hey! Wait up! Virgin girl, it's me! Harry Styles boy! The drunk dummy?" The voice called after her, jogging to catch up. Destiny struggled to process what he was saying, and slowed down as her mind tried to recall the events of her drunken party experience. She slowed down to a stop as the memory of them dancing, and making out, filled her mind in fuzzy images.
"Oh," she let out slowly. "HSLA..." Her voice was barely a whisper. HSLA stopped beside her.
"Umm, what?" He laughed nervously, looking at her with his head tilted to one side.
"Oh, right. It's shot for Harry-Styles-" She began explaining.
"Look-alike?" He finished with her. "Of course, what else." He smirked at her with a cheeky, lopsided grin. "You're an odd one, virgin girl."
"Virgin girl?" Destiny said, looking appalled. "Must you announce that to the whole campus?"
"I must," HSLA shot back. "You have a nickname for me, so I'll have one for you." He winked at her, before leaning casually closer to her. "Of course, you could just tell me your real name. I have told you mine, after all."
"You have?" Destiny asked, raising her eyebrows. "I don't think so."
"I did, you just can't remember because of all the, er..." HSLA mimed drinking, tipping his head dramatically back, like he was chugging it down. Destiny covered her face in embarrassment, her cheeks tinting pink.
"Oh god," she groaned.
"Oh god, indeed," HSL laughed, nodding in understanding. "So your name, virgin girl?"
"Destiny," she replied, not lifting her head. "Destiny Baker."
"Lovely name, much better than virgin girl." He stuck out his hand to her. "Jack, Jack Mathews." He poked Destiny with his outstretched hand, getting her attention. She reluctantly accepted it.
"Hi..." She mumbled, nervous about being face-to-face with a boy who hadn't exactly seen her better side.
"It's a little late to be shy now, hon. I've already tasted the inside of your mouth and watched you dance down a dark alley. Embarrassment is way out of the picture!" Jack teased, linking arms with her. "Now, where are we off to now?"
"English," Destiny replied sceptically.
"Then to English we go!" Jack cried, raising one arm in the air like he was off to sleigh a dragon. Destiny giggled and let him pull her towards the right building.
He was goofy and odd and cocky. She was determined to dislike the boy. But somehow, it was taking everything in her to stop her laughing eyes from glancing up at his. A smirk was playing on his lips. She was sure he knew she was glancing hid way. And she was sure he liked it.
