"A rat is in the kitchen!"
".....!" Urgh. I didn't have to turn around to see who it was. That annoying and familiar voice was definitely from that mutt. 'The hell is Lataliate's lapdog doing here?'
In a noble's house, it was normal that the servant's children wouldn't be allowed inside. But, because this dog's mother was the person who took care of Lataliate, he was made as an exception. In other words, he was Lataliate's nanny's son.
'His name was Rowan, right?' I turned to see the boy with brown hair and freckled face. With my experience with him, I was always cowering in fear. But, "Pfft!" strangely enough, he just looks like your average and annoying brat.
'Heh. Is it because I've lived until my teens? He looks like a kid in my eyes.' Rowan was taller than me for five inches, yet, he looks so young from my perspective. "W-what?!" Rowan stuttered out a shocked question. 'He even gets agitated so fast. He really is just still a bratty kid.'
"What are you laughing at you low-born bastard!"
".......!"
'...Huh?' Low-born? It's been a while since I heard someone call me that. Until now, the only people who knew of my birth in the estate were the Roscents, Lataliate's most trusted maids, and her nanny.
I was trying to be the mature one, because of the marquess, and as well as the fact that I have the mentality of the older person. But, so... what if he's just a kid. A normal child wouldn't even know the meaning behind those words. So, it was either he knew them, or he was just ignorant and kept on chanting them.
Back then, I would be hurt from just the mention of my birth; I would cower and tremble in fear, from those hands of his that he would raise... Yet, strangely enough, both when I faced the maid earlier and Rowan now, I still felt that shaking feeling in my body. But I wasn't lowering my head anymore.
Is it because I've lived two lives now? I don't feel scared of them as much anymore. If anything, when I think about it, I only feel like getting revenge. Right, 'Who cares if he's a kid!' children like these should be thought a lesson.
'The person who attacks first, always wins.' That was the rule I kept on seeing at the orphanage back then. 'He's eating better than me, and is growing faster than me. So, it was natural I would be weaker than him.' In that case, I don't need to feel guilty when I kick this wooden box towards him. It was empty anyway.
*Clack!*
"Dwog, boy!" (Lapdog!)
'And with what I had endured, this should be nothing for you!'
"Kurgh...!" Rowan had his face contorted from the sudden pain he felt, and crunched down with rivers flowing on his face.
*Thunk!*
'Huh?' There was a bottle that fell and began to roll towards me, after I had the wooden box crash into Rowan. The suspicious bottle that fell greeted me with its presence with a glistening light. 'What's that?'
It was an odd-looking bottle, with an uncommon color and expectation. It raised thoughts filled with skepticism to the point of mistaking the substance inside the bottle to be poison.
I would have continued to doze off in thought if it weren't for Rowan and his obnoxious shout. "Waaah!" Rowan's cries were so loud that everyone in the kitchen stopped from doing their work, and turned to the other side of the counter.
'Did you have to be so loud?' I glanced at the bottle and quickly snatched it in my pockets before anyone else could see. 'I should keep this with me just in case.' I wanted to know more about the bottle, except, now wasn't the right time.
