It's a great idea to have a list of your characters with their personalities, likes, dislikes and image. It's important to keep these details so you can make crucial points in the story. If you want, you can even create a chapter for each character at the very beginning, so it tells you about them and maybe their history. I sometimes so do that. I don't tend to publish them (obviously) but it helps to keep a note.
If you keep a record of your characters then it helps so much more and especially means you can develop their personality and taste. Also, give your characters flaws, no one is perfect, so any minor flaws will be perfect to relate your story to real life and other people, earning more votes, comments and follows.
