Emily's POV
What does she mean who is my father?
"Max Rivers is her father." My mother says.
"Who is her biological father." Miranda stares at my mother. I flick my eyes from Miranda to my mother and back again.
    "Mom?" My voice cracks.
"Max Rivers." My mom replies sternly.
    "He is not her father."
"Mom?" My voice is still small and in my throat.
"Max Rivers." My mom replies again.
"You are lying! Tell your daughter the truth!" Disbelief and sadness wash over me.
"Is that true?" I ask. My mom turns her eyes to me, but I couldn't read her expression.
    "Your father is Max Rivers."
"I can't help her if you are going to hide things. We're done here." I throw my hands in front of Miranda.
"No wait!" I shout. I turn to my mom.
"Well fine. We don't want your help anyways." My mom grabs my arm and tries to head for the door, but I pull back.
    "Mom please." I beg.
"Get out of here and don't come crawling back!" Miranda shouts and points to the door. I clench my hands into fists and my nails dig into my palms.
    "We won't!" My mom shouts.
"STOP IT!" I scream and all the windows of the house shatter and fly outward. My moms hand reactively covers her mouth. Her eyes are wide in shock. Miranda put her hands up in a surrender motion.
"Emily just calm down. It's going to be alright." She coos at me. I try to relax my hands but my whole body is tense.
"Mom I want to know the truth right now." I demand. My moms eyes soften. She looks down and then back at me.
"I don't know who your father is." If my hearing wasn't enhanced, I would not have heard her. I unclench my hands and take a step back. It's like the air in the room shifted and a weight has been placed on me. Literally everything is falling apart.
"What..what do you mean?" I ask, I feel the anger rising up in me.
"It's not what you think. We tried for years for a child and nothing." My mother takes a step towards me. I take one back.
"I thought it was me, I thought I had failed him. But I found out he was the problem. So I snuck away to a human clinic." My mom says. The look on her face was of shame.
"No one knew. Not even your father." She didn't make eye contact with me anymore.
"You knew." I say. I heard the rage and pain in my voice.
"Emily, we just wanted a pup of our own so badly. When your father found out he was over the moon with excitement. He thought you were a miracle. And you are my child." My mother takes a few steps towards me and reaches her hand out to me.
"I could have been a human. I might not have been a wolf." I take a step away. My mother looks hurt by my retreat.
"True, but we would have loved you even if you were human." My mother says.
"You don't know that. Father could have rejected me. You lied to me, to dad. I can not trust anyone." I feel mad, angry. My vision is blurring and I just want to run. Sam wants out. I rush passed my mom and out the front door. I need air! I need to not be here. What is going on? Why can't anyone just tell me the truth? When did my life turn into this mess? I barely realize I shift into Sam. She runs hard and fast through the trees. Inside my mind, I am trying to wrap my head around what just happened and who I am. Suddenly I am made aware I am not alone.
"Em, someone is following us." Sam says. She sniffs the air.
"It is a wolf." Sam says. She runs faster to see if the wolf can keep up. I hear their paws hit the ground behind me. They are keeping up with my pace.
"I have an idea." Sam says. Suddenly Sam makes a sharp turn right. I hear the wolf falter and fall behind. Then she makes another sharp right, almost losing our follower. She makes a sharp left, then skids to a halt and ducks into a large bush.
"What are you going to do?" I ask.
"I have a plan." We wait until we heard the wolf was just about to pass. As soon as the wolf gets close, Sam springs from the bush and lands on the surprised wolf's back. We tumble forward and roll on the forest floor. When we stop I am on top of him baring my teeth in a low growl. What lays underneath me catches my breath by surprise. My growl sticks in my throat and I stop showing my teeth. The wolf just lays there until I am completely off of him.
    "It's you." I say.
"It is. I felt your magic. I felt your pain. So I came." His voice was different than my dreams. Much softer but with a hint of authority.
"Hiroen." I almost whisper his name, afraid he'll disappear. His white fur is brighter in person and his eyes are brown with flakes of gold. He is big, but only slightly bigger than me.
"You are a very fast wolf."
"I'm fast when I need to be." I stare at him hoping it is not a dream.
    "Your power makes you fast."
"I still can not believe you are alive." I say, we slowly circle each other.
"I have much to explain. But not yet Emily."
"Why not? I can not be with people I can't trust." My voice is dripping with pain.
"True there are many you can not trust, but your mother is not one of them. My own parents were not my real parents, but they did not love me any less. Your mother loves you with her whole heart." He is right, but I don't like to be lied to.
"And you have two others you can trust."
    "Who?"
"Well Miranda for one. Ask her what happened to her coven. It is a hard story for her to tell, but it will help you understand the magnitude of what you mean to some people."
    "And the other?" I ask.
    "Your mate." REALLY!!
"I can trust Mike?" My heart filled with excitement.
"No! Your true mate, Liam." He says.
    "But Liam is.."
"Look inside yourself Emily. You have always known the truth. You need to listen to your self. Learning Magic will help you with that."
"Go back to your mother. Learn magic. Soon I will come for you. You will learn of your prophecy. You will take your place above all others. You are strong Emily. We are all proud of you." He says and bows his head slightly to me before he takes off running. Everything inside myself wants to take off after him, but I just stand there watching him fade away. I sit in the stillness of the forest and think about what he said for awhile. He said I can trust my mother, but he didn't mention my father. How did my circle grow so small? And what of Liam? How can I trust someone who is dead. I felt him being ripped from my bond. It felt like I was going to die. How could that have been fake? Could magic do that? I slowly get up and head back towards Miranda's house. I walked with my head down in thought. The woods were thick, but I finally reached Miranda's. I heard voices, my mother and Miranda.
"You should not of held the truth from her." I hear Miranda say.
"I wasn't trying to. I just didn't want her to feel differently towards her father. I didn't want to tell him either. It is my shame to bare." My mother's voice is strained.
"So she is the one. The one they speak of in the prophecy?" Miranda asks.
"I fear she might be. I thought since I didn't have any magic, she would be alright."
I want to know the prophecy. I want to know who I am supposed to be. I shift back into my human form and walk to the house. There is a dress on the porch and I slip it on. My mother and Miranda have stopped speaking, they have probably heard me. I walk through the door.
"Tell me the prophecy. Now." I say. My mother and Miranda look at eachother.
"Very well Emily. Have a seat." My mother says.
