Luther's POV
We walk up to the pack lands. There is not a guard in sight. As we walk towards the main house I see some people move out to the porch.
"MICHAEL!" I shout. Where is that pathetic little worm.
"I'm here." A man steps forward. He is thinner and paler than he use to be.
"Michael? You look.. like hell." Michael steps closer to me.
"What are you doing here Luther?" He asks in an exhaustive manor.
"I am here about my daughter." His face doesn't change when I bring her up.
"I'm trying to figure out what happened to her." I add.
"I don't know what happened to her. She let me out of my cell and told me where to go. I asked her what she was going to do, she said she was going to go after the Tribrid. I didn't see her again after that." He says.
I don't respond. I just continue to stare at him directly in his eyes. He stares back at mine, with a facade of bravery. But I can sense his fear and deceit.
"Bethany would you bring our two guests forward." I say without breaking eye contact. He continues to stare back, but looks away when he sees the familiar faces.
Bethany brings forward his parents. Their mouths are covered and their hands are tied behind their backs. Bethany drops them to their knees.
"Mom?! Dad! What is the meaning of this?" Mike says sternly."Well Michael, I just feel like you aren't telling me the whole truth.. I could use magic on you to coax the truth from your lips. A rather painful process.." I say as I walk over to his parents. I lift his mother's head up to look at me. There are trails of clean skin left behind from tears falling down her dirty cheeks.
I look back at Mike he's frozen in place. I continue on.
"But I wanted to give you another opportunity to do the right thing. Tell me the truth. So I'll ask you one more time. What. Happened. To. My. Daughter?"
I can sense the inner struggle happening within Mike. His eyes don't leave his parents.
"I..I.." he stutters. His eyes flickering between them parents.
"Out with it boy!" I shout.Mike's POV
I watch as some girl drags out my mother and father. It's strange to see my father, the pack Alpha being pushed around like this.
"Mom?! Dad! What is the meaning of this?" I ask.
The girl shoves them to the ground. Luther is staring me down. I'm trying to keep a strong face but I can't bear to see my mom all tied up."Well Michael, I just feel like you aren't telling me the whole truth.. I could use magic on you to coax the truth from your lips. A rather painful process.."
Luther walks over to mom. What is he going to do to her? He grabs her by the hair and jerks her face up to look at him. I'm frozen in place.
"But I wanted to give you another opportunity to do the right thing. Tell me the truth. So I'll ask you one more time. What. Happened. To. My. Daughter?" Luther says staring me down again.
If I tell him the truth, he could kill them. Or he could kill me. But if I lie and he finds out.. then he could kill them or he could kill me. Maybe he already knows the truth. He is a witch after all. Who knows what he's capable of.
"I..I.."
I don't know what to say, Im hoping the words will form themselves on their own without me having to say them. How do I get myself and my parents out of this? Time is passing. I can't think of another lie. I need to answer him I am about to lose everything.
"Out with it boy!" He shouts."I killed her!" I blurt out.
Oh no. Have I just made a terrible mistake? I didn't know what else to say. Luther looks surprised. I guess he didn't know the truth after all. Damn I should've lied. He walks over to me and places a hand on my shoulder.
"Ahh. See? That wasn't so hard now was it?" He says, almost with a smile. I don't take my eyes off my parents.
But.. is that it? He just wanted the truth? He pats my shoulder. I look into my mother's eyes.
A memory flashes through my head. I was around ten years old. I had gotten a cold from swimming in the river during a rainstorm. After my parents specifically told me to stay inside. When I came home and my mom found me sneezing and coughing and soaked to the bone. I thought I would be in trouble. But my mom didn't say anything. Instead she helped me get dry and warm. She tucked me in my bed. and brought me some soup and read to me. When my dad asked how I got sick. My mom lied to him. She told him I caught it from one of the omegas. Its one of the first times I remember feeling like I could really count on my mom to be there for me. No matter what, my mother would be on MY side.
My mother's green eyes look up at me. I want to pick her up and hug her.
"Bethany." Luther says like he's giving a command. The girl steps back and unsheathes her sword. All to fast I realize what's about to happen. I try to react, but I am too late. She swings her sword through my mothers neck and then my fathers. I see my mother's green eyes bright with life one moment then dull and flat the next. Where I was once looking at my mom now I only see a bloody sword.
Bethany cut off both of their heads in one swing. My breath is stuck in my throat. I can't breathe I can't speak. I can't even move. It feels like minutes have passed since I was last able to breathe. Finally I cry out.
"NOOOO!" I try to run to their side. Maybe I can fix them. But Luther holds me back, with one arm. Tears well up and pour from my eyes.
"Noo!" I scream again. This time Luther lets me go, but the realization of what has happened hits me hard and I fall to the ground on my hands and knees. My fingers dig into the earth to keep me from flying off. My head spins as my parents' blood flows out into the grass. I feel Luther kneel next to me.
"You took my daughter from me. YOU did this to your parents." He whispers in my ear.
"What should we do with him?" Bethany asks. I am still sobbing, as every piece of my life has been ripped to shreds. I don't even care if they kill me anymore. I would welcome death with open arms at this point. But I guess Luther knew that.
"Leave him. Let him live with what he has done." He stands and they both walk away. Like nothing has happened. Like they didn't just end two lives. I manage to crawl over to my mother's body. I weep there, crying out. I have never felt such uncontrollable emotion in my life.
"Mike!" I hear someone shout.
I don't know who and I truly don't care anymore. I don't care about anything anymore. What have I done?
"Oh my Goddess." I hear someone exclaim.
"Carol, come away."
"Mike? What happened?" Colton asks. I look up at him, eyes full of tears. I want to form words, but nothing is working. I just hold my dead mothers hand.
"Take her inside. I will stay with him." Colton says. I don't know how long I'm sitting in the grass before I'm able to speak, but I see the crest of the sun. I have stopped sobbing. My tears have dried. I am finally breathing normally.
"Mike, can you tell me what happened?" Colton asks again.
"This is my fault. I caused this. I caused all of this. I was selfish and stupid and jealous." I'm rambling the words are just forming themselves. My brain is blank.
"Mike, what are you talking about?" Colton asks.
"ITS MY FAULT THEY ARE DEAD!" I scream. Colton moves back in surprise.
"Everything that has happened to this pack has been because of me. I made the deal with Luther, my parents tried to fix it, and Liam got in the way. This is all my fault." It was true. I don't care if Luther twisted my words or manipulated me. If I had just been happy for Emily and Liam, none of this would have happened. I continue to sob.
"Mike, I think you should leave." Colton says. The words cut through the last string of my heart. I've lost my best friend, my brother, my parents, my pack, and myself. I am nothing now. I know he's right, I should leave. I destroyed his home, his family. I don't blame him.
"Leave Mike!" I slowly nod and try to stand. My legs waver underneath me. I look up at Colton.
"W- what about my parents?" I ask.
"We will take care of our Alpha and Luna." He says, I can tell he's holding back his anger. I turn to leave.
"Mike." I turn and look at Colton.
"Don't come back." He says firmly. All I can do is nod in agreement. I turn and walk away from my pack for the last time. I walk into the forest alone, with no where to go. I am a rogue.
