Chapter 21

Vanessa
I paced up and down in the waiting area. I hadn't changed my clothes, that is, I was still covered in Mad's blood. Lilli had gone home a long time ago, as had Nathalie (I had to force them both to leave.) Only Cami didn't want to go, so she sat with River on her lap and watched me. "Nessa... I think you should change your clothes..." she said softly, pointing to the bag with the fresh clothes she had brought for me. I shook my head violently, "I won't leave this waiting room a second sooner I know how it is with the love of my life!" I swallowed, I had never said that before Cami's mouth fell open "Did you...?" I closed my eyes "Told the truth? Yes..." Cami smiled at me and I started up and down again to run . At some point I got bored and ran back to the reception area, ignoring Cami's calls. "How about Madelaine Petsch?" I asked an orderly sitting there. "We have as little information as you Ms. Morgan, just as we did thirty minutes ago when you were last here." I glared at him, "Why is it taking so long?!" I fought back tears, but felt a sob escape and my throat constrict. Hesitantly he stood up and came towards me, "You should rest a little. Madelaine Petsch has been in emergency surgery for 4 hours and may be dragging The bullet narrowly missed vital organs Go home .
We'll let you know when your girlfriend's out of surgery." I shook my head violently, "I'm not leaving this hospital a second before I see her. And get me out I'll yell at the whole hospital!"

11:00 p.m. Cami dozed, I wide awake next to her, biting my fingernails. I had informed Mad's parents. They were also here up until now and had put me on Mad's reference list.
Michele and Timothy said they are glad I was Mads' girlfriend and relieved that I got to her on time. I asked her to sleep with Madelaine and me and take River with me. The grandparents agreed and so Cami and I were on our own. No one else was in the waiting room and so I realized, for the first time in hours, the acrid stench of Madelaine's blood.
With a sigh I took the bag and freed myself from the bloody top and from the formerly white bra. Cami had packed one of Madelaine's oversized tops which I pulled on. The acrid stench was replaced by blood and Mad's scent. I knew I still had blood on my face but I was a lot
too tired to wash .

"Hey, I'm sorry to address you now, but you look really exhausted. Can I get you some coffee?" Annoyed, I turned to the friendly voice and had half a heart attack. I looked into a face that looked a lot like Madelaine's. She could be Madelaine's sister or daughter.
The woman in front of me had warm dark brown eyes and reddish hair and was around 18 years old.
"Wow... um..." The young woman looked at me worried, "Are you okay?" "Um...coffee sounds good...thanks..." The redhead got up and came back about 5 minutes later. "I don't know how you drink it, so I made it like mine." She gave me one of the two cups and put a bucket of water in front of me, "I brought you water to wash with. Do you want me to help you?'' I nodded, "What's your name?" "Siona." I gave Siona a smile, "Vanessa, Vanessa Morgan."
"I know..." Siona wiped my cheek with a rag, "I'm a fan of yours and Madelaine. I saw you earlier when I came home from school. Mom works here." "Nice to meet you Siona. I like meeting fans. How old are you?"
"16."
,,uhm Ma'm....."
"first Name !" Siona interrupted me.
,,How old are you?"
,,16"
"You're kidding me, aren't you?" Siona is supposed to be 16? Damn, she looks a lot older...much more mature.
"No." She shook her head as she threw the rag back into the bucket. "Mrs.Morgan, Can I..."
"You" now I interrupted her."Can I get you something else Vanessa?"
I shook my head gratefully, "Not me but a pillow and blanket for Cami would be appropriate. And maybe you'll keep me company. I won't wake up that sleepy hat anytime soon." Laughing, Siona nodded and was gone for a few minutes. Sighing, I brought Cami into a lying position and stroked her hair back. "Sleep well, black-haired angel." I whispered to my best friend.
When Siona came with a blanket and pillow, we covered Camila and then sat next to each other on a bench.
"How did you two get together?" She then asked with shining eyes. So I told her everything, really everything, up to the point of the shot. Okay, when I was shot I started to cry and so the young woman hesitantly hugged me. The hesitation quickly fell from her, namely when I buried my fingers in her sweater and pressed my face to her shoulder. "Madelaine Petsch is strong, she can do it." The girl encouraged me.
I had no idea what else to say so I sat silently leaning against the girl. "Don't you have school tomorrow?" I asked. Siona shook her head and stroked my arm. "We have semester break for the next few days."

Hours passed before a black haired woman walked in. "Siona?"
,,Yes Mama?"
"Are Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Mendes awake?"
"Mrs. Morgan yes, Ms. Mendes no."
"Then please wake her up. Ms. Morgan, your friend just came out of surgery, I would take her to her now."
I turned to Siona: "Are you two following?"
Siona smiled, "Camila yes, me too if I should."
"Please come along. I need two friends with me."
Siona nodded at me with a smile and so I trotted behind the nurse into a hospital room. Before Siona's mother opened the door, she took a deep breath: "It must have been me, it's not a pretty sight in there."
I nodded shakily and then followed her into the room. When I saw my girlfriend, I put my hand over my mouth.
A hose was sticking out of Madelaine's mouth and she was hooked up to countless devices. "Ms. Petsch barely survived the shot, if she survived it. We don't know if she suffered any consequences." Siona's mother explained it to me kindly. I felt tears welling up in my eyes and my arms wrapped around me. Cami's scent enveloped me and I clutched Cami's black hair in a panic. I also felt Siona's presence and her hand stroking my arm made me cry even more.

Camila
Vanessa was frustrated. It was now 5:00 a.m. and she hadn't slept a second. Mini Madelaine also seemed worried about Vanessa. I put a hand on Siona's shoulder and directed her out of the room. "Thanks Mini Madelaine." I said to the redhead. She looked at me confused, which made me laugh, "You look very similar to Mads." Siona's brown eyes began to shine "Thank you..."
"I'll tell you, without you Nessa would have gone nuts. You have been her salvation."
The girl shook her head violently, "She'll be saved as soon as Mads is awake."
"True again."

Siona had called Lilli for me (via my cell phone) and was now sitting in the waiting area with me again. "Lilli will take over from you right away?" Mini Mads broke the silence. I nodded, "Yes." Siona picked at the fabric of the bench with her fingers. "I wanted to ask if we can take a picture...? I understand if you don't..."
"Sure, give me your phone."
Siona smiled and I opened her camera and took some pictures of us. Then I grabbed my phone and saved her to Contacts. I'll contact you later sweetie." I said and got up when Lilli entered the waiting area. I quickly hugged my best friend, "Lilli, this is Siona or as I call her, Mini Madelaine."
Lilli laughed and greeted Siona.

Camila looked tired, as did Siona and Vanessa. By the way, Mini Mads was a great match for the girl who introduced me to Cami. Cami asked me to take more pictures with Siona so that Cami can claim to have met a loyal Riverdale fan. Of course I liked doing that, I loved taking pictures with fans.

However, the sight of the ventilated Madelaine left me speechless. Siona squatted in front of Vaness and handed her a glass of water and a bowl of soup. "You have to eat Vanessa, Madelaine won't help if you starve yourself." Reluctantly, Vanessa took the spoon and ate a few bites. "Very good, now eat up."
Vanessa obeyed the 16 year old and when she finished eating, Siona pulled her up and laid her on the bed which was just 2cm from Mads. "And now you close your eyes and sleep for a few hours. "But what if Mads wakes up and I'm asleep?" The sound of Vanessa's voice broke my heart. "There is a phase of waking up, I will wake you up in time." A woman's voice called out. Siona smiled gratefully at the woman, "Are you listening, Vanessa, Mama knows." Vanessa exhaled calmly and then nodded, "Okay." Then she closed her eyes and Siona breathed a sigh of relief.
"What about you?" I asked the girl. Mini Mads smiled at me "I closed my eyes two hours ago so it's ok."
