~~~~~~~~~~~
Ehi stood still as rage filled her.
Osanobwa (God) has granted her a second chance, and she would damn her soul to the very depths of hell if she didn't use it right.
"I am ready," she stated.
The duchess smirked as she walked out of the room, nodding at the guard to announce Ehi's arrival.
"Here comes the celebrant of this glorious night", the butler announced.
"LADY EHI MCNIGHTTON OF WILTSHIRE, niece and heir to the DUCHESS OF WILTSHIRE!!!"
The giant doors opened wide, bright lights seeping from the ballroom, shining directly upon her as everyone stood still.
Her eyes were void of all emotions, a stiff smile on her lips, and she walked slowly into her new chapter.
FEW YEARS EARLIER
____________
Ehi lay on her mother's lap as she listened to the wonderful tales her mother always had to tell.
This particular one was of a queen and a mother who existed in a time before them.
She was a great warrior who raised an army that fought relentlessly for her people.
Her son was also the king during her reign and during this time, the title of "Iyoba"(queen mother) was instituted.
Her iye(mother) made hand movements mirroring the slashes of a sword as she got to her favorite part of the story.
"Slash! Slash! Slash."
"The queen and her army went to war and fought against the evil men who tried to take the throne from her people", her iye whispered dramatically.
Ehi smiled at her mother's antics to entertain her, but deep down, she always admired the strong queen.
NOTE
A little history never hurts anyone, right??
This book is 70% fiction, and the other 30% are well-known historical events and facts.
I love how I was able to put together everything I love about literature into this book.
I love the historical feel it has to it, the romance and how it shows a glimpse of my beautiful maternal culture.
It's mostly about the history of slavery of the Edo people in Nigeria during colonial times.
Basically, this book (Ehi), is a fictional representation of slavery during colonial times.
I sincerely hope you enjoy and learn a lot about my maternal history from it💜.
*This book is how I imagine things were for a young girl during those times.
It will be nothing like you expected, so please keep reading and join me on this incredible journey.*
This book is currently undergoing editing, so I take full responsibility for all the errors.
Some words will be in my local dialect, but don't be confused, the meaning will be put in brackets beside them and also be written at the end of every chapter.
Words in my dialect and meaning:
EHI: The name of our main character means (Destiny)
