"Amen! Amen!" Ehi called out.
Light footsteps padded hurriedly to her, as little hands wrapped around her waist.Ehi lifted her, cradling her in her arms, "It's going to be okay, the bad men are gone, it's over now," she assured the little girl.
Ehi couldn't help but cry. The child was so little, yet she has seen and been through so much terror."Iye, where is my iye?" Amen hiccuped.
Ehi did not know what to tell the child, or if she could understand what death meant."Osanobwa called your iye",
"He is nursing her into good health"
"She has been sick for so long, he had to take care of her himself."
"But, your iye made me promise to take care of you from now on, you would like that won't you?" Ehi whispered. The little girl nodded sadly, her lips quivering from crying.
Ehi hummed a lullaby as she rocked the child back and forth, her soft snores soon filled the room, letting Ehi know she was finally asleep.
Ehi knew she needed to sleep too.
She felt drained after what happened, but she knew tomorrow was another day.
Another step closer to completing her revenge.
She nervously went over her plans over and over again, making sure not to skip any vital part.
Exhaustion finally took over as the lights faded._________________
Her sights were blurry as she tried to breathe slowly in an effort not to get caught.
She had been hiding in this spot for hours, waiting for the general and his guards to finish discussing before she proceeded with the second phase of her plan. The general's cabin certainly had more furniture than Marcus's cabin.
The beds were built the same.
So, she didn't think twice before slipping underneath to hide when she heard the footsteps coming.
She was extra careful not to leave any footprints or hints that gave away her hideout the last time."Sir, I know how serious this is."
"But, we cannot possibly torture the slaves until they provide Marcus, besides we are not even sure they had anything to do with his disappearance," a pale-faced man said. She had never seen him before, he was short, with hair covering most of his face.
He was dressed most gently, with thin lenses hanging off his nose.
"He must be the doctor", she thought."We are already short on slaves due to the massacre, and our clients will have our heads if we do not deliver."
"And most importantly, we will lose money."
"We will be arriving in England on the fourth night."
"The guards will continue to search for Marcus until then. If he isn't found then, we will count his loss as collateral damage", the doctor rushed out.General sat stiff, taking deep breaths in an attempt to restrain his anger.
He didn't like how his right-hand man was just referred to as "collateral damage" by the doctor in charge of the medical aspects of his soldiers. If the fucker didn't have people in high places, he would have put a bullet in his head by now.
He knows those slaves were responsible for Marcus's disappearance, but he had to remain calm like the doctor advised because he couldn't afford to bear the losses.Although he would love to see those dirty lowlifes suffer, it wasn't time yet.
Releasing a sigh, he dismissed them from his cabin and headed to the washroom to relieve himself.________________
Ehi quietly slipped out of the room when she saw the general walk into the washroom, she halted in her footsteps, and with one last look at him, she whispered out.
"YOU ARE NEXT!".
