The ball was in full swing as slaves scurried across the halls attending to their various chores, beautiful women and dashing men ushered into her master's home.

Ehi and her daughter were both assigned to the kitchen, they looked different as all slaves were made to wear their best clothes for the ball.

Ehi smiled as she watched Amen struggle with the food bowl.
Chuckling at her child's innocence.
She wished they hadn't been stolen from their lands and enslaved by these vile men.
No one deserves to be treated worse than animals, she thought sadly.
The guests walked towards the middle of the ballroom as the sound of music filled the air.
It wasn't like anything she had ever seen, they all moved gracefully and in tune with the beat.
Her hatred for these people was greater than anything, she wouldn't let the beauty of their culture fool her.

"Iye I will be back, i just need to use the washroom quickly", Amen rushed while bouncing from one foot to another.

She chuckled again at her child's actions.

"Run along then, be back before Marcus notices your absence"
"Don't go too far," she said quickly as Amen hugged her and skittered out of the hall.

"Osanobwa this girl still acts like she is but four years of age," she grumbled.

Although in her heart, she knew her day wouldn't be complete without Amen and her naughty antics.
With a smile on her face, she went back to washing pantries.

A scream tore through the air and her blood ran cold.
Something had gone wrong, all the warning signs kept going off in her head as she walked towards a group of pale-skinned women.

Her heart thumped loudly as her breathing came in short breaths.

Blood, so much blood, someone was hurt.
Her eyes trailed to a pair of fingers reaching out for help but the pale-skinned women scurried out of reach in disgust.

She walked faster, pushing her way into the crowd, and then, her heart stopped.

Sprawled lifelessly on the ground was Amen.
Tears rushed down as she fell cradling Amen to her chest, she let out a shrill scream.

"Please help me! help me save my child, Call for help I beg you", she wailed hysterically.

The pale-skinned women stared at her like she was crazy, a few scoffed as they whispered and eyed her irritably.

Her heart shattered as she wept bitterly.
"Who harmed my child, Amen who did this?", she asked painfully.

_______

Amen was too weak to keep her eyes open.
The pain of what he did to her, the memory of it terrified her.
She would never be herself, if he hadn't done damage enough to kill her she would have taken her life.
"It is better this way," she thought.
She didn't want to be a burden of worry to her iye.

Tears trailed down her eyes as the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.
With her last strength, she clung to Ehi as she whispered lowly
"Lord Phillip".
Letting her eyes drop slowly she succumbed to darkness forever.
She heard her mother wail loudly as slaves rushed to her side.
