" The scariest monsters are the ones that lurk within our souls. "

I sat at Klaus'- I mean Alaric's bar and examined my werewolf bite with my big brother and Katherine hovering over me.

"I'm okay, really." I shrugged, hopping up from the bar.

"That doesn't look okay." Damon argued with me, concern swimming through his eyes. My facial features softened as I realized how bad it actually was. I'm going to die. I thought, my heart sinking to my stomach.

"I-It doesn't look that bad." Katherine tried to comfort me, noticing the sadness on my face.

"It will be though." Damon argued, not even sparing my feelings. I sighed in defeat and grabbed a drink from behind the bar.

"Wait. That's it? You're just going to....die?" Katherine asked, confusion taking over.

"Unlike you Katherine, I know when it's time to give up." I replied, sipping thoughtfully at the scotch I had poured.

"Des, you hate alcohol. What are you doing?" Damon asked, taking the drink from me.

"I'm dying Damon. I think I get a pass." I growled, snatching it from him and taking a long gulp. I could hear Damon sigh as he watched me.

"You're giving up?" Damon asked, his voice cracking a little bit. I nodded my head, knowing if I spoke I would probably just squeak.

"Destiny Salvatore is giving up? Laying down? You have no hope that you will make it out of this alive?" He pestered me. I sighed, slamming my cup down before speaking once more.

"Damn it Damon! Can't you see? There is no cure or else I would be out there right now looking for it! I just reunited with my family, I don't want to die anymore than you want me to! I just don't have a choice." I yelled a tear escaping from my eye and my voice squeaking a little. He stared at me, surprised by my sudden out burst before pulling me into a hug.

"I'm going to go to the car. As soon as we get to our house, I'll call Bonnie, our witchy friend, and ask her to help find a solution." Damon explained, pulling away. I glanced around, seeing Katherine in the corner of my eye.

"I'll meet you down there." I nodded. He just nodded back and went to the car as he said he would.

"Katherine. You know how long I thought you were dead?" I asked her, my voice cynical.

"Are you saying you were upset?" She asked, a small smirk appearing on her face. I shook my head at her and smirked as well.

"Not at all. I celebrated your death. You know why? You ruined my life. You and Stefan." I explained, venom dripping from my voice.

"I'd hardly say we ruined it. I mean, being a human would've been miserable for you. No mother. No father. No...family. You would've been alone." Katherine sneered at me. I shook my head once again.

"No because I would've accepted my brothers after a time if Stefan hadn't killed me. I would've lived a long, human life by their sides until my death, but because of you and Stefan it didn't work out that way." I frowned, taking a stake off the counter. "You would've been the perfect couple. Both traitorous little vampires on the run from separate things. You from Klaus and Stefan from himself." I hissed before stabbing it in her stomach and leaving her in the room alone.

I paced in the parlor of the Salvatore boarding house, listening to Damon on the phone.

"Damon." Stefan's voice came from the other line.
