VV
2 months passed.
Every night, I would tell my mom that I was going to work, but in reality, I was going to Elijah's place. The routine had become second nature—leaving under the guise of a "shift" and sneaking into his world of secrecy and luxury. It was a twisted deal we had, but it worked. I played my part, and so did he.
Elijah, in his way, had kept his promise. No one knew about what really went down between us. To the outside world, we were just two people who had met under business circumstances. But the more time I spent with him, the more I realized I wasn't just his secret anymore.
He'd take me on dates and from time to time have sex. He'd take paid me too. And I think I earned enough to leave my adoptive parents.
It was a usual night at Elijah's place, quiet, too quiet for my liking. We had just finished dinner, and I was sitting on the couch, a glass of wine in hand, trying to keep my mind from drifting. But tonight, my mind wouldn't stay still.
I was late. Really late.
The thought of it hit me suddenly, and I felt a chill run through me. I hadn't been feeling right for days now—dizzy, nauseous, and exhausted. I tried to ignore it, thinking it was just the stress from everything going on. But the signs were becoming too obvious to ignore.
I excused myself to the bathroom, my hands trembling as I pulled out the pregnancy test I had picked up earlier that day. I didn't want to, but something told me it was time. As I waited for the results, my heart pounded in my chest. Every second felt like an eternity.
When I saw the two lines, I froze.
Pregnant.
I sat down on the edge of the tub, staring at the test in disbelief. How did this happen? I had been careful... I thought I was. But now, it was undeniable.
Tears started to well up in my eyes, but I quickly wiped them away. I couldn't afford to break down. Not now. Not like this.
Elijah. The thought of telling him made my stomach turn. What was I supposed to say? What if he didn't want this? What if everything changed?
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, the woman looking back at me a stranger. How had my life gotten so complicated?
I needed to get out of here. I needed space to think. But first, I needed to tell him.
I walked back out to the living room, trying to steady my breath, trying to act normal. Elijah was sitting there, watching TV, completely unaware of the chaos I was holding inside.
"Celestine, what's wrong?" His voice was soft, but I could hear the concern in it.
"I... I need to talk to you," I said, my voice trembling.
I stood there, frozen for a moment. I wanted to tell him, but the words wouldn't come. How could I even start this conversation? How could I explain everything to him? The fear and anxiety crushed me, and I knew I wasn't ready to face that yet.
"Celestine?" Elijah's voice broke through my thoughts, pulling me back to reality.
I forced a smile, shaking my head. "Nothing. Just... tired. I think I'll head home."
Elijah looked at me, his brows furrowed in concern. "You sure? It's pretty late."
"I'm fine," I said quickly, wanting to end the conversation. "I just need some space to think."
I grabbed my things and walked out the door, trying to ignore the knot in my stomach. My legs felt like lead as I made my way to my car.
I didn't want to go back to my mom's house, but it was the only place I could go right now. I just needed to be alone. I needed time to think, to process everything that had happened.
The drive home felt like it took forever. My mind raced, a hundred different thoughts running through my head. What was I going to do? How was I going to tell Elijah? How was I going to tell anyone?
I got home and slipped quietly through the door, trying not to make a sound. I was hoping my mom was already asleep, but as soon as I stepped inside, I could hear her voice from upstairs.
"Celestine! You're home late again." Her voice screamed authority.
I didn't answer right away. I just headed upstairs to my room, hoping I could avoid any confrontation. But as soon as I opened the door, my heart stopped.
The pregnancy test slipped from my bag, infront of my mom.
I froze, staring at it. My mom must have seen it.
"What is this?" Her voice echoed through the hallway as she stormed into my room, her eyes burning with anger and disbelief.
"I... I'm pregnant, mom."
She stared at me for a moment.
"Pregnant?! Paano mo nagawa 'yan?!" sigaw niya, mukha niyang namumula sa galit. "Hindi ko inisip na magiging ganito ka!"
I could feel the tears building up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. "I didn't plan this, mom. It just happened."
"Tinutulungan kita, tapos ganyan ka lang?! Alam ko kung anong nangyari sa inyo ni Elijah," she hissed, her voice colder now. "Masyado kang paloko. Hindi ko akalaing magiging ganito ka. Napaka-bobo mo."
I stood there, silent, unable to speak. Her words were like daggers to my heart. I didn't have the strength to argue, to defend myself. I just stared at the floor, feeling the weight of the shame and guilt crashing down on me.
"I may have taken you in," she continued, her voice now full of disdain, "but that doesn't mean you're my daughter. You're not even blood. And you've proven yourself to be nothing more than a mistake.A mistake to pretend as my dayghter"
Her words hit me like a slap across the face. I couldn't breathe. "But—"
"Don't talk back!" she snapped. "You've done nothing but ruin everything I've worked for. And now you're pregnant. An embarrassment. You're out. Now."
I couldn't comprehend what she was saying. It felt like the floor had disappeared beneath me. "What? You can't—"
"I said get out," she repeated, her tone final and heartless. "I'm not your mother. I never was. I'm done with you. Get your things and leave."
I felt my legs shake as if I couldn't even stand anymore. "But... where am I supposed to go?"
"Wala akong pakialam. Hindi ko na 'yan problema. Get out!" she yelled, her back turned as she walked away, leaving me there in the hallway.
I stood there, frozen, my entire world crashing down around me.
I slowly walked to my room, packing my things with shaking hands.
