Rui Lan smiled and continued to take off the scarf, draping it over the backrest of the chair. "Well, seems like I can't hide anything from, brother Li. In that case, let's not waste any time and get straight to the topic." Saying so, he turned around and then took something out of the pocket of his jacket, sliding it over the table.

Li Ming had no idea what was going on. He looked at what was on the table and then couldn't help but feel even more confused. This was an envelope that had his address written on top.

He raised his brows and picked it up, not opening it immediately though. This matter was just too strange. He had no idea if he was actually supposed to check what was inside or get home first and then take a look there.

Rui Lan scratched his head when he was looking like that, not sure if he was doing the right thing. "Ah Ying said that we should send it in the mail but I figured that would be pretty awkward. I'd rather give it to you personally."

Li Ming still wasn't sure what this was about but it seemed that he was supposed to open it immediately. Anyway, if he still didn't check what it was, would he even be able to have this conversation with Rui Lan? He really doubted it.

Thinking of that, he opened the envelope and pulled out what was inside.

It was a card, or at the very least, it was the type of paper that cards were made out of. Slightly stiff but still smooth to the touch. Looking at it, there was elegant ink writing on top, a couple of flowers decorating the sides, and a beautiful frame connecting everything.

Li Ming stared at it for a moment, and even without reading really what was written in the middle, he already knew what was going on. His expression turned from confusion into shock before he turned to the Rui Lan. "You're getting married?"

Rui Lan gave him the brightest smile he had ever seen and nodded. "Yes, I asked her two weeks ago. To be honest, I was thinking about talking about it with you before so you could give me some tips but I figured that since it's a proposal, I should do it myself. Anyway, I didn't do that badly of a job. She said yes."

Li Ming didn't know what to say. "Well ... congratulations!" To be honest, he had expected a lot. But because Rui Lan had been so nervous, he had always thought it would be something bad. But now, as it turned out, it wasn't in the least. Instead, it really was a reason to sell celebrate. "I ... I really don't know what to say. I guess it's not that unexpected seeing as you've been together for a couple of years now."

Rui Lan nodded and then leaned over the table, looking a bit sheepish. "Actually, the reason why I waited two weeks to tell you is that we first wanted to get the invitation right. Ah Ying wants a spring wedding so there's not much time left anymore and we hurriedly made this so I could tell you in style.

"We don't have a date yet and nothing is planned but I guess it's somewhat what our invitations will look like at the time. Anyway, we both talked about how we imagine our wedding to be and we want something simple.

"It's not like we're swimming in money, I'm not the type to make a big fuss about things, and Ah Ying also just wants friends and family there, nothing too extravagant." He fell silent for a moment, really not sure to bring this up. Honestly, it shouldn't be that difficult but he felt awkward about it.

"Anyway, we don't want a lot of people in the wedding party but we thought about having two witnesses. Basically, the people we figured had the most influence on our relationship and are also in part the reason for why we made it that far.

"If you don't mind, we'd love for you to be up there with us. All those times when we were in trouble, you were always there to try and mediate between us. The last time, if not for you, I'm afraid we wouldn't have made it so you're definitely one of those people. Don't feel forced though!"

To be honest, the reason why he was feeling a bit self-conscious about asking this was that Li Ming had indeed helped them a lot but he might be uncomfortable at the wedding, especially in the wedding party. After all, they were both very well aware that this was something that Li Ming wouldn't be able to have even when he found the right person. It wasn't like he could marry a man and it didn't look like the laws would change anytime soon.

Li Ming was the type of person who would do everything for his friends so he might feel forced to accept. And that was something he didn't want. He'd feel honored if Li Ming was their witness but he didn't want to be the reason for any bad memories.

Li Ming stared at him, not sure what to say for a while. Seriously, this had come pretty sudden. But no matter what, he was happy for the two of them and he didn't understand what Rui Lan's problem was right now. "Well, of course, I'll do it! The two of you are my friends and we've known each other for years. There's no reason for me to say no. Just tell me what I'm supposed to do and I'll be there!"

Rui Lan heaved a sigh of relief and then leaned back. "Well, that's good to hear! I was really nervous about this."

Li Ming laughed and then picked up his drink. "Looking at you like this, if I didn't know you, I might be afraid you were trying to propose to me instead of inviting me to be a witness at your wedding with somebody else. I hope you weren't like this at your actual proposal."

Rui Lan gave a huff but he had to admit that Li Ming was right. Being this anxious when asking somebody to be in your wedding party was strange. "Well, I was just thinking about your circumstances.

"Anyway, let's not talk about that. You mentioned the other week that you were dating again. You can bring him! This isn't the official invitation yet but you will definitely get a plus one. Anyway, we're not going to shortchange our small wedding party."

Li Ming raised his brows, once again not knowing how to react. Being a witness for Rui Lan and Cang Gui Ying was a given. As for bringing his new boyfriend ... he'd still have to think about that.
