Tony continued to recover quickly while working on the design of his Iron Man suit. He was still implementing improvements.
After a few weeks he was finally allowed out of the Medical wing and into his workshop. He had the Tesseract stored there just waiting to be looked at by someone.
"Daddy's home!" He called into his workshop walking in with practiced confidence.
"Welcome back, Sir." Jarvis replied dutifully. It still stirred warmth and guilt up in Tonys stomach hearing that voice so specifically Jarvis.
"So, let's first get started on looking at the readings of the Tesseract and itself." Tony called walking over to the place they had it secured in.
He opened the cabinet, slightly blinded by the glow of the Tesseract. He slowly grabbed the glowing cube pulling it out of it's snug housing.
The initial touch wasn't as he expected, he expected it to maybe burn a little as the power of the combined infinity stones had previously. The touch still was rather warm, but pleasantly so.
Tony could feel something in the Tesseract, just something so familiar and warm and just a rather deep connection to it. It felt as if he was supposed to hold it, as if it was his.
After a moment to recollect himself he shook his head and brought the artifact to his workplace and just observed it for a second. He considered breaking the outer shell of the artifact to extract the space gem but wasn't too sure if that was the best course of action.
'Fuck it' he thought as he held a hammer loosely in his dominant hand. He wanted to do this the old fashioned way just to humour the artifact. He chiseled away the outer shell revealing the infinity stone of space.
Now having revealed it's true form, its glow was even more prominent than before. It looked a lot like the glow which was coming form his arc reactor. He picked the gem up oh so carefully, observing it for a moment and admiring it's beauty.
He still felt that pleasant warmth from the stone. It was kind of like holding a warm cup of hot cocoa in a winter night in front of the chimney. He grinned at the thought.
'Hello, Anthony.' He suddenly let the gem drop starteling hard at the voice.
"Who's there?!" He demanded looking around his workshop not detecting any other living presence near him.
'I am the very stone you have held twice now.' The voice explained, washing a sort of calm onto Tony.
"So you're the space stone.... And you're talking to me." Tony deadpanned looking at the still brilliantly glowing stone on his workbench, picking it up carefully.
'Yes. You are correct. As for why I am able to communicate with you, it carries the reason of you utilizing our power once and coming into contact with us once again. We have formed a sort of bond as of our first contact.' The stone explained calmly.
"Well, that's cool. So any reason for you to communicate with me or were you just getting bored?" Tony asked having calmed down considerably since the stone spoke up first.
'My initiated contact with you carries no serious reason beside me wanting to serve as your protector. I have a bond with all my brethren and we have considered our options and want one of us to accompany you throughout your new journey. If you will have us, that is.' The stone spoke.
Tony was stunned into silence for a moment before considering what the space stone had just told him. Before he could ponder too much he found himself dead panning at the stone, amused on the inside. "Sure!"
'That is pleasing to hear. As I do not want to be discovered by eyes other than yours or your trusted ones, I still need some sort of vessel.' The stone explained.
"Oh I know just the place. How about the arc reactor? It has nearly the same glow as you do, it is it's own energy source as well so it would be hard to trace your energy ontop of it." Tony clapped his hands together, moving across his workshop to his other workbench where he worked on his nanotechnology housing unit.
He grabbed the finished arc reactor, even though only about half the nanoparticles were finished and there was yet another half to make.
"It's not finished yet but I do carry it around with me so you'd be with me 24/7." The genius looked expectantly at the space stone waiting for its input.
'As expected from a genius, indeed a great idea. If you would be so kind to set the reactor near me, Anthony?' The stone requested softly.
Once Tony set it next to the stone he watched as the stone slowly integrated itself into the arc reactor mixing their glows together and forming one united piece.
Tony slowly took the reactor in his hand, admiring the now even more brilliant glow. He secured it onto his chest and let the nanoparticles already in the housing build their connection with his mind. He felt a surge of power flowing through him as not only the nanoparticles connected with him but the space stone did so as well.
'We are now able to converse per your mind so you must not speak aloud if you want to speak to me.' The stone remarked now voice clearer than before.
'Ooohhhh, that's nifty! So quick question. I don't want to call you 'the space stone' in my mind all the time so what do you want me to call ya?' He asked impressed with the new way of communication.
'You can call me Lukyan, if you wish. It has the meaning of being the bringer of light.'
'That's a cool name, Lukyan. Even though I'm gonna probably come up with a lot of different nicknames.' Tony commented while looking at his chestpiece analytically.
Just when Tony was about to start cleaning the workbench up, as it was still littered with the remains of the Tesseract housing, glass, crystal thingy, whatever as the doors to his lab opened up, letting in one James Barnes.
"Oh, hey sweet thing, how may I help you?" The genius asked looking the other straight in the eye with a grin, slightly leaning on his workbench.
"Nothing, just wanted to remind you that your time in the workshop is up, and you have to go take a break." James smirked at how his grin faded and an adorable pout made it onto Tonys face.
"But, I didn't even do anything strenuous today!! I actually feel great right now!" Tony whined even though he was feeling better then before he had interacted with Lukyan.
'That is because I have restored some of your health, Anthony. You have access to my own powers as well now that you have accepted my presence.' Lukyan said surprising the shit out of Tony.
The flinch was visible as James frowned at him. "What's wrong doll, you wanna tell me about it?" James approached the millionaire and cupped his cheeks lightly.
Tonys face lit up in bright red as he stumbled to get an answer out. "N-no I'm fine." Tony coughed as he turned away from the Soldier so he wouldn't notice his quickly reddening face.
"Awww, is someone getting shy now?" James cooed at him playfully which made Tony roll his eyes fondly at him.
"Now come on, let's get going, shall we?" James said as he went on to lead Tony out of the workshop.
"Only if you promise me cuddles. Your cuddles are to kill for." Tony mumbled the last part fiercly.
James could only grin at the boy and answer an affirmative.
They soon moved to Tony's room, getting ready for bed before cuddling together and sharing their warmth.
"Like I said, I'd fucking kill for your cuddles." Tony murmured sleepily.
Before succumbing to sleep, he thought he heared a mumbled "language". But that was probably just his mind playing tricks, right?
