After the loss of their father, Lara worried most about Virginia. Jungkook, she worried about in a different way, and after much deliberation, Lara had gone to Paige.
Paige and Hoseok had hit it off from their first meeting and had never looked back, although they had slowed things down a bit for the sake of Virginia and Seokjin. After Hobi had graduated, the four guys had gone off to do their mandatory military service and before he had left, Hoseok had put Paige in touch with the two younger members of their friend group who Paige had then introduced to Jungkook.
Paige hadn't mentioned anything directly to Lara or Virginia, just made sure that Jungkook had someone else to talk to, though Lara always kept an eye on her little brother. So, when their father was taken from them, Lara was concerned, but knew Jungkook had someone at least to talk to about what had happened. What surprised her was the text she got from Namjoon after the news of her father's death had gone public, checking in and making sure she was doing alright. He reassured her that if she needed anything at all, he would take leave from his service as soon as he could to help.
Lara's heart melted a little at the idea that her Joonie still cared enough to offer such a thing. It made her sigh a little in frustration that her sister still refused to talk about what had happened with Jin, and she thought Namjoon was just as frustrated with Seokjin as she was with Virginia.
Joon also discretely mentioned that someone else was worried about Ginny, and it made Lara smile, albeit a bit bittersweetly.
When she wrote her response, Lara told him that he in turn, could tell Jin that Ginny was pretending to be ok, but really wasn't. Lara also asked if Joon would keep writing to Jungkook, as that seemed to encourage her brother. On the days he heard from his Hyung's, he bounced a little when he walked. Subtle, but to a big sister, easily a telltale sign.
And so, they had continued to write each other here and there over the two years of military service. Lara explaining about how the business was growing, and Namjoon sharing silly stories of what had been happening with the guys. Never once how the training was going, or what they were doing. And never ever anything more strongly worried than a generic, "It's good to have friends to talk to. Thank you for thinking of me," from Namjoon.
"Friends my ass," Lara groused as she'd read yet another email where they almost flirted, but neither one of them committed to it. Blair had rolled her eyes and thrown her braid over her shoulder before teasing her friend about falling in love with the big friend-zoning giant.
Lara had just laughed.
"Yea, we definitely picked the two most emotionally available men on the planet," and Blair had had to halt her teasing. It certainly wasn't like Yoongi was going to come out and suddenly develop an interest in talking to her more than he did now.
When Jungkook graduated, he and his two friends Taehyung and Jimin all took their military service at the same time, and as expected, they overlapped with their Hyung's for about six months.
Lara lived for Joon's emails during that time. Any news of her brother was a good thing and something she happily shared with Virginia. Who politely pretended not to know where such information was coming from.
The girls spent time expanding their skill set and by the time Jungkook returned from service, Sentinel Security Systems had a decent foothold in the very small community of bodyguards. Female bodyguards were unexpected, and that seemed to work in their favor more often than not.
As Virginia expanded her talents for computer science, and Lara and Blair were able to convince her to join with them. Thus, Sentinel Security was able to offer a few more expanded service options in their portfolio. And Lara was secretly glad that they had a medic on staff, just in case something actually happened on one of their jobs.
