Akaashi stared up at Bokuto's bloody face. There was something he'd never seen in his guards eyes before... Fear.
"Bokuto?"
He looked Akaashi over and pulled his hand away from the prince's face.
"Stay quiet and come with me. Please."
Nervously, Akaashi did as instructed and followed Bokuto. They practically ran through the halls and Akaashi's heart stopped at the sight of blood splattered over the walls and floors.
Akaashi's eyes widened as he realized where Bokuto's taking him- the safe room.
Bokuto shoved Akaashi inside the hidden door and followed behind him.
The queen gasped when she saw her son. "Oh, thank you!" She said to Bokuto as she embraced Akaashi. He wanted to ask what was happening but-
"Bokuto, " the king said firmly. "Thank you. Now go find them."
Bokuto bowed. "Of course, your highness."
"Wait!" Akaashi stared at his friend. Bokuto nodded when he saw the unspoken words. You promised you wouldn't leave me.
"I'll be back soon. I promise." As Bokuto left, Akaashi finally noticed his limp.
The prince turned to his parents. "What is going on?"
Sighing, the king sat down. "The castle has been breached by enemy soldiers."
"How? I thought their army was still two weeks of travel from here."
"They are. These soldiers came ahead and disguised themselves as guards in training."
Akaashi nodded. This was way too much to take in after just waking up. He thought back to Bokuto, bloody and limping away.
"Bokuto is injured."
His mother gave him a sympathetic smile. "He'll be alright. Those wounds don't even seem to be bothering him. He's too busy being worried about you."
"What?"
"He was helping out one of the maids outside of our room when it started." She shrugged. "When we figured out what was happening, he was so frantic about getting to you. We've all seen him in his silly little depressed moods, but I've never seen him quite like that before."
Akaashi didn't say anything else. Instead, he sat with his back to the wall and closed his eyes. He really hoped Bokuto is okay.

Bokuto ran through the halls, stopping only to help wounded guards and castle staff.
Thirty two enemy soldiers snuck in. Bokuto had killed seven, and he wasn't sure how the others were doing.
He rounded a corner and saw Yamato on the ground with a sword pressed against his neck.
"Bokuto-"
"Awe, did your friend come to help? Too bad he's too late to do anything about it."
Those were his last words. Bokuto didn't flinch as he pulled his sword from the man's chest and his body fell to the ground.
"Thank you," Yamato rasped.
Kneeling beside him, Bokuto checked for wounds. "Are you okay?"
"Fine. But you're hurt."
"Don't worry about it, I'm all good." Bokuto grinned. "Can't live to a hundred thirty if I let a hurt leg stop me can I?"
Yamato laughed. "True. How many have you taken down?"
"That was my eight."
"By yourself?"
He nodded.
"Oh Wow. Washio and I got ten together before we were split up."
Bokuto sighed. "So best case scenario, the other guards have gotten them all. And worst case scenario, there's still thirteen left." He stood up and held out a hand to his friend.
"Go find Washio, and stay with him," Bokuto ordered.
"What about you?"
Bokuto turned away and clenched his fists. "The king ordered me to find the two in charge. So that's what I'm going to do."
~
Akaashi couldn't stop pacing. He couldn't stop worrying. Bokuto is strong, he can handle himself. But what if he got out numbered? What if he was laying somewhere, hurt and-
"Hey hey hey. I'm back."
Akaashi's head snapped up and he took in Bokuto. Without any hesitation, he ran over to him and pulled the guard into a tight hug, not bothering to stop the tears that slid down his face.
Bokuto wiped Akaashi's tears away. "Hey, It's alright Akaashi. I'm here."
"You we're gone for hours. I was so worried."
Holding the prince tight, Bokuto laughed. "Don't you worry your pretty little face over me. I am the best guard around, remember? I got everything handled."
Akaashi rolled his eyes before giving Bokuto a quick kiss. He didn't care that his parents are in the room with them.
"Has it been done, Bokuto?" The king asked.
"Yes, your majesty. They've been restrained and locked up in the dungeon with four guards watching over each of their cells."
"Very well done my boy." With a heavy sigh, Akaashi's father stood from his desk. "Alright. It's very early in the morning. Akaashi, you may go back to your room and sleep if you wish. Or you may acompany Bokuto as he goes to get his leg fixed up. Whichever your heart desires."
Akaashi bowed. "Yes, father." He turned away and followed Bokuto out of the safe room. "You know I'm going with you right?" Akaashi muttered.
Bokuto laughed and grabbed his hand. "I'd be offended if you didn't." He forced a grin that Akaashi saw right through.
Hesitantly, he glanced down at the cut in Bokuto's leg. It wasn't bleeding as bad as it had been earlier, but his limp seemed to be getting worse.
"How bad does it hurt?"
"Not gonna lie, it hurts like a bitch. But I'll manage."
Akaashi sighed in relief. Of course he'd manage. Bokuto may be goofy and loud, but he is strong.
"How did that even happen?"
Bokuto looked embarrassed. "Well, I let my guard down when I was going to get you. Someone snuck up on me. I should've been paying closer attention."
"Maybe, but things happen," Akaashi consoled. "And you did keep me safe."
"Hell yeah I did."
When they arrived at the medical wing, there were six other guards in there.
One of them, a boy around Akaashi's age, lit up when he saw Bokuto. "Bokuto! You looked so cool when you were fighting!"
Bokuto crossed his arms. "Oh yeah? I guess I did look pretty awesome huh. You did good work, Haruki. How's your hand?"
The boy flexed his fingers. "It's fine. Just a sprained wrist." He looked Bokuto over. "Your leg though..."
"Oh don't you worry about that. The lovely prince is seeing to it that I get it fixed up."
Akaashi smiled. "Damn right I am." He lead Bokuto over to a chair and helped him sit down. "It's crowded in here. I should probably go."
Bokuto nodded but wouldn't let go of Akaashi's hand. "Before you leave..." He returned the kiss from earlier. "Thank you, Akaashi."
