Chapter 23: Visit

The dinner was filled with chatter as everyone spoke of anything and everything, things were lively and homey, unlike how it would have been if Ruka passed away.

Cold and empty, sometimes there would be a drunk Shinjuro – most times – and Senjuro. . . he would suffer the verbal and physical abuse from him all the time.

“Mother, will you not eat?” Senjuro asked with a shy smile as normally, he tilled his head.

You nodded, “yes, no one touch my food.” You started to eat the ramen slowly seeing Senjuro look happy and ate his’.

Your mind was a mess. What was going on with you? My was your mind so drifted off into a deep void, but sadly you didn’t think of anything that would make you think so much.

The meal was loud filled with talk and loud ‘Umai’ from both your husband and son making you smile at the memory of how it started.

“Mother,” you turned to little Senjuro, “when did father start this?”

You laughed at how nervous he looked as he sweated a bit. “It’s his fault.”

Shinjuro stopped eating and gave you a hard look, “You started it!” he placed the chopsticks down and pointed an accusing finger at you. “you made me start complimenting the food every second!”

You pursed your lips then said, “you didn’t compliment the meal! Its rude!”
Like that Mitsuri chirped: “what actually happened?”

You smiled at her sweetly turning your head to her, “it was a bit after we moved here after your marriage.

The table was filled with many plates of meals you made the whole evening for him.

Markings of the night before still sat there on your pale skin. And your feel and inner thighs were a bit numb from the activities.

You took the apron off before placing the bowl of rice down and the chopstick and placed the red plum in the centre for taste.

“I’m home,” you heard a voice, “hey Ruka.” He kissed your cheek before the closing the shoji door and placed his sword and cape awake.

“I hope you like it.” You clapped your hands together and sat down with him, “thank you for the food!”

Then you waited for him to take the first bite of the udon noodles you took hours making to perfection. He didn’t say anything aside from a simple ‘hm’ before continuing the sake was never neglected as he took a shot of the alcohol.

You ate silently waiting for a compliment or complain but he just ate away in silence making you annoyed.
“why don’t you compliment the meal?”

An irk mark appeared on his forehead, it wasn’t the first time you forced him to say he liked it or nah. He knew that you loved he compliments on the meal.

“why do you want me to?” he had the bowl in his face as he ate the meal like there was no tomorrow.

You scoffed, “it took me hours you know!” you pointed a finger at him from across the table, “you eat the amount of a whole village!”

He let an offended gasp and growled, “fine!”

From that day every single bite he took from his meals around his wife he exclaimed a loud ‘Tasty!’ that she could hear all over the other side of the manor.

“Pfft.” Mitsuri let out with a blush on her cheeks, “how cute!”

Shinjuro was blushing and ate silently making you frown, “Shinjuro is such a cutie,” you teased your red eyes on him. “and Kyojuro learned from him.”

That made your first born turn red from those words. “mother. . .” he looked down at the large plate of sweet potato before taking a bite, but unintentionally exclaimed a loud ‘delicious!’ with a grin.

You smiled, “I love that you are happy with my cooking. It is the only thing I can do.”

Night fell after hours of the meal and chatter. Shinjuro was out again with Kyojuro while Iguro and Mitsuri were on a mission. Senjuro was deep asleep.

You waited for the weekly visits of two demons that you knew you shouldn’t be seeing even if they were persistent and annoying as them.

Just then they appeared.

The younger one that looked like a child jumped into your arms, “mother!” he started calling you that after coming to see you the last twenty years. While the older one stood in the engawa his arms were crossed over his chest.

“did you drink wisteria?” the younger asked baking away pinching his nose in annoyance, “it stinks.”

You nodded, “sorry, my husband wanted me to drink some before leaving for a short trip.” You felt a bit guilty that the spider boy couldn’t cuddle with you.

The older demon sighed, “it’s just a bit Rui it wouldn’t hurt, only if you feed from her.” his red eyes narrow, “not like you will do that.

He smiled, “yes Muzan-Sama!” he whispered with a grin before hugging you again sitting on your lap.

While Muzan sat down beside you his glare set on the trees far away. “Do you think I will ever get the receipt to make me immune to the sun?”

You blinked – you knew it would not happen, after all it was never the blue one, it was the red one. And also he dies before even realizing it. All the Kamado related members of the clan would be immune to the sun since they were related to the sun itself.

“who knows,” you shrugged, “for me day and night are the same, humans can also have hearts of demons.” I glanced at him, “Life and death is the beauty that makes us human.”

You knew Muzan feared death since when he was human he always was at death’s doorstep. Reason why he was a ‘coward’. He was your design you knew how you made him be. He couldn’t change. His destiny was set in stone.

“I fear death. . .” the raven head said not meeting your eye as his gaze was on the moon now, “my mother always prayed on the moon to let me stay alive – she did everything he could to keep me alive. But not like this.”

You made that his heart stopped several times and was a stillborn. But still started crying when he was close to being cremated. It all happened in a night.
