We continue to hang the rest of the clothes helping to ring out the ones that are really soaked. Sophia and I don't talk about the plan in front of the adults. They think that seeing Carl will scare us but he's alive unlike what is all around us in the woods.
Sophia and I were lucky that we only ran into a few in the woods it could have been much worse if Daryl was actually a walker... no I can't think like that Daryl is alive Carl is alive. No one is dead except Jim Jacqui, Donna, Allen, Amy, and so many more most of them I didn't even listen to their names now I'll never know them and I can't change that.

Dad comes back and scruffs my hair I look up at him. He looks more relaxed than before. This time when he smiles it's with his whole face including his eyes. Leaning my head against him I smile.

He must have clamed down during the perimeter check. In the woods... which have walkers in them. Thinking about the woods makes me ask dad "dad are we safe here the woods have walkers in them and there's nothing stopping them. No fence, no barrier, nothing. Dad are we safe? We weren't safe on the road. At the quarry camp it seemed safe but it wasn't"
Dad puts a hand on my shoulder kneeling down to my level. He sighs running his fingers though my hair cupping my face then taking a his hand off my shoulder to rubs his head. "Champ you need to understand there isn't anywhere completely safe not with this many people."

He sighs again "Jacob I have a plan but I know you won't like it but I need you to be with me. Ok?" I blink "plan what are you planning what do you mean too many people?"

Looking up he breathes deeply "I'll tell you later it's not going to happen till Carl is better. To many people make too much noise it attracts those things. If it's only one our two people it's easier to stay alive. There is no safety in numbers. Jacob you can't trust people." I blink "but dad Uncle Rick said we need to stay together" of course he was talking about me and Sophia but the point still stands.

Dad sighs again pulling me into a hug with his hand in my hair. " I know Jacob but he thinks he's doing what's best for the group but I'm gonna do what's best for us ok? I need you to listen and do what I say even if you don't understand or agree I'm trying to keep us alive and safe ok? Please Jacob."
The look in his eyes makes me nod before I realize it. He smiles with his entire face again. I blink staring into his eyes there is a desperate look in his eyes.

The words roll around in my mouth before I speak "ok dad I'll try but what's the plan?" He kisses my forehead and ruffles my hair. "Thanks champ, just trust me ok?" I nod again before I realize it. What's dad's plan what did I agree to?

Stopping feelings guilty for not telling him earlier. I pull out the gun from my belt "I found this in the cabin I don't want one of these till you give me one" handing to dad he nods taking it. "Thank you champ who knows you had this?." I shuffle uncomfortably "Darly and Sophia. Daryl said it was a good idea- but it wasn't his fault I was the one who suggested we carry one Daryl just thought it was a good idea to carry it but it's not his fault I..." he stops me taking the gun from me "your not in trouble I'm glad you gave it to me. I'm proud of you son. I smile "thanks dad."

Dad ruffles my hair smiling "love ya son. How about you get Lady fed it's all in the tent." I smile back "Ok dad love you too." He ruffles my hair again as a run by him to get to the tents. Lady right beside me she hasn't left my side since she saw me.

I run getting Lady excited she runs beside me wagging her tail widely. She barks running ahead of me then back to me overshooting passing me again. Looking back I see her slide to a stop then jumps to flip around. Running at me full speed she barks running circles around me. Laughing run as hard as I can still not able to keep up with her. She runs beside me barking.

Throwing my head back I laugh fully feeling it in my stomach all the way to my mouth. Getting to the tent I'm still giggling entering it. Lady is right behind me licking the can when I pick it up. She barks picking up her bowl walking outside. Her tail hits the tent flap as she leaves. Dumping the food in her bowl. I watch as she quickly eats.
