I don't say anything for a while still stunned from what happened. Sticking close to Dad he shows me to the high way. "Found the foot way few days ago while I was looking for you." Nodding at his voice even though I have a hard time paying attention with my thoughts being so loud.
Dad rubs my back "I'm sorry you had to see that fight just know I love you ok?" I nod "love you too dad." He runs his fingers through my hair. "you can tell me anything that's bothering you you know that right?" I nod "ok dad."

I know what I want to ask him but I don't know how to say it. The fight made me think about my egg donor why did I dream about her? I want to ask about her the only person who knows anything about her is Dad but I don't really know what he thinks of her he never really talked about her. All he ever said was she gave up custody of me. I'll have to wait until I get the courage. Making a deal with myself to ask him about her in the water truck no matter what.

Dad moves though the woods carefully I try to replicate his movements stepping where he steps but my strides are too small. It seems like every leaf is the crunchiness and loudest possible. Dad sighs "champ you need to step lightly you don't want to attract walkers" I want to yell out I am trying to be quiet but that's what a little kid would do so I just say "ok dad I'll try harder." He shakes his head "don't try just do."
"Yes Dad" I try to step lightly but it hardly seems to make a difference.

After walking for awhile we come to the high way. I'm not sure why but I'm surprised that it looks the same. Of course it looks the same I think to myself all of the drivers are dead. There's no one to drive the cars away. Dad walks to the water truck I follow him walking the same path as I ran down a few days ago.

Dad checks the door it doesn't open. "Alright champ I'll show you how to open a car it only works on older models though. He takes a metal ruler with a half circle cut out "so what you do is slide the cut in, in to the window then pull up. You got to do it by feel ok?" He dose the movement as he speaks and there's a click of the door unlocking. "You'll practice when we get back to the farm."

I nod "ok but dad how do you know this?" He smiles "you'll be surprised how many people lock their keys in there car and call the cops." He opens the door and smiles "like now! The truck is empty and the keys are in the ignition." Dad turns the truck 'off' even though it's not running. "lest go find some gas."

We walk up the row of cars a walker twitches and dad stabs it. The thing was under a wheel forever just rotting in the road. I can't see any bites I wonder where it got bit to turn it into a walker.

Dad finds two gas cans "this will be enough to get to the farm but not much further. It's got about 5 gallons in it." Soon enough the the gas is in the tank. I go to get into the car but dad stops me "let's see if we can find anything useful."

Most of the stuff is useless to us it's lots of clothes that we can't even ware. Dad pulls out some blankets and sleeping bags. He smirks with pride at his finding. "If we find a tent will be set." I scratch my head "but we have a tent."

Dad runs his fingers though my hair. "We'll be able to leave quicker if we can hide a tent in the getaway truck less time for people to get suspicious and try to stop us ok?" I nod looking down I still don't want to leave but I have to listen to dad and he right about Hershel while everyone else thinks he is just some poor old man.

"Alright Dad I'll try." I look in a few trunks near Dad keeping him in the corner of my eye. There is some water prove looking and feeling material. Pulling it out I find out it's not a tent but a large rain jacket. Taking in to dad he smiles putting it on. "Thanks champ." A smile comes to my face. It feels good taking care of Dad even is a tiny way.

Dad looks in another trunk before pulling out a tent "alright we have everything we need. Found some MREs and cans of food don't tell anyone that we found anything but the water, gas and jacket ok?" I nod not liking the idea of lying but wanting to listen to Dad. He knows best.
