Omg omg omg omg, My hands were shaking as I brought out my phone, trying to call the familiar number. "Come on, pick up. Pick up. Pick up." Static and crackling, "Damon!? She's back, Laurel is back; get here now! My room- south window is clear."
I hadn't even ended the phone call when I felt the tingles of magic in my room and watched as the perilously handsome demon materialized in my room, my heart broke for the man he appeared to be. His normally perfectly coiffed wavy chocolate locks were in complete disarray and he still bore the same haunted look in his eyes that first started after Laurel went missing. He had never given up that he would find her again, even after he had lost track of her in the Fae realm.
I hated myself for starting to give up on her, it had been six months, five of those we had no sightings or trace of her. But now she was back, it was like the air felt different now. I ran to Damon he wrapped his arms around me, almost teleporting us blind, before he stopped to ask where we were heading. I told him just outside Alexander's pack lands, and then we were there. I had to fight the urge to vomit, teleporting was never easy on my stomach, but it was worth it for the time that was saved.
"You spoke with her? She's ok?" Damon asked, after waiting for my stomach to settle, the tension he was feeling obvious in his voice.
"Just for a minute. She sounded like her. It's strange, maybe crazy but I think I felt it when she entered this plane, there was a magic ripple, it was the weirdest thing I ever felt, even now I can feel something new. Powerful. Like it's calling to me." I said, I knew my words were rambling, but I was one of the few people Damon couldn't mind read, I needed to say everything for him, or focus on letting him in. Which was impossible as I was very focused on not throwing up right now.
"Why didn't she call me?" I could feel the sadness rolling off of him. Normally the Demon was little more than subtle background noise, if anything at all. It was why I had first enjoyed spending time with him, he was quiet to me. Well he was the first quiet person I had ever met, until Laurel anyways.
"She called me from Alexander's phone, I don't think she has her phone anymore, and Alexander wouldn't have your number." the embarrassed expression that seemed so incongruent with his face and normal confidence let me know that he realized he was being petty. But I understood, he really did love Laurel. Felt like she was the perfect partner he had waited eternity for. When Marisol let him know she was fine, in the Fae realm, and how she had changed, was more fae than human now, had claimed a mate. I could read him like a book, he has been hoping ever since that she would come back to him or he would find her and she would claim him. I knew Laurel had felt something strong for him, I hoped they were fated, it would make him so happy. He deserved it after living so long alone and fighting against his base nature to be better.
I was just happy that my friend was safe, that I could see her again. I hadn't realised how much I had enjoyed her at work until she wasn't there, or how much I liked having her share a home with me, until she wasn't there. When she vanished, I tried to hold on to hope that she was ok, but my heart hurt so much to hold on. I tried to let her go, to accept life without her when it seemed hopeless. I had been a bad friend, I had given up on her.
We were standing in awkward silence when I felt it, a pulse of energy connecting with my magic, calling to me. Drawing me into the pack lands. My feet started moving, taking me past the invisible line that Damon wasn't able to cross. I could hear him yelling at me, I couldn't stop myself. Fae magic, strong and old magic was at work. The dry grass was crunching under my feet as I walked what seemed like an old path or long abandoned road into the woods. I was sure I was moving towards the home Melody was continually renovating with Alexander as their private family home. Why would I be drawn there? Melody was home on bedrest with twins, the poor girl. Alexander had been extra protective for this pregnancy, I had set so many wards on the pack lands I was certain I was the only magic wielder able to cross the boundary now.
