Nine Months After the Battle of Light and Love

Laurel

“Come on Delia, you can do this, push!” I cheered my love on as she worked so hard to bring our first child into the world. Her mama was here with us in our happy home. I had worked out a deal with Alexander to allow us to build a family home near the willow tree on what was technically pack lands but a far flung corner from areas inhabited by the pack.

I was holding Delia’s hand Brydel on the other side holding her hand as well, while Sky and Auris buzzed around the room, wanting to help, but also feeling underfoot. Delia’s mother was rolling her eyes at the men, while she had a smile on her face.

This was a happy time, the midwife called out that one more push should do it, and I felt Delia squeeze my hand almost to the point of breaking bones as she gave everything she had and then, I heard it. The sound of a tiny baby crying for the very first time.

The midwife helped Brydel cut the cord and the new life was placed on Delia’s naked chest, skin skin to the two were wrapped up in warm soft blankets as Delia looked down at her son for the first time.

“Rowan” she whispered to the baby, naming him after Brydel’s father. Brydel looked down on his son on Delia’s breast, his hand reached towards them, before he stopped himself like he was scared to touch them.

Delia didn’t have time for his fear, we were all parents now, she took his hand and placed it on their sons head and the look of affirmation and love on Brydel’s face would have been enough to make anyone fall in love with him all over again.

“We have a son.” he whispered, eyes never leaving the suckling babe, as though he still couldn’t believe it was real.

Auris, Sky and myself excused ourselves, giving Brydel and Delia a chance to bond with the baby alone. It was harder to convince Caroline to leave, but even she understood that her daughter needed some time to rest now. Caroline let us know she was going to shower in the guest room and take a nap, Delia’s labour had been long, and truthfully we could all do with some washing and rest.

Damon was waiting in our room, reading my well worn copy of Nancy Drew. What was with the ancient ones and reading that book? It wasn’t even my favorite of the Nancy Drew books I had read. He set the book down and came over to kiss me. “Boy or girl?” he asked.

“A boy, Rowan, after Brydel’s father” Sky answered him.

“Delia was amazing, you should have joined us.” Auris said, looking like he was high he was so happy.

Damon shrugged, “Delia is a friend, the birth of a child is a time for family.” He said, I understood what he meant, he was part of our family, he didn’t yet feel connected to any of the others, not like he loved me. I hoped he would come to love the others in time, but if he didn’t that would be ok too. Everyone was entitled to their own limits. Even a former demon king of hell.

Because now we were happy. All of us. Our children would grow with Melody’s. Sky and Brydel were able to run with a real wolf pack. Auris had reformed the Dragon Council, as a benevolent society and he had started a magic school to pass on his knowledge to the younger generations of Fae and witches. Auris was excelling as a teacher, he thrived on his students' success. Damon was no longer a demon, but he was still a well connected rich business man so he had access to his money and various properties, making our move to the human world so much easier than it would have been without him. Delia had formally left the coven of her family, and was now a free witch. It had upset her mom and Aunt Jo but they eventually accepted her decision, they were glad we had settled on earth and they could visit. Especially once they were told Delia was pregnant.

Everything had worked out, even better than I had dared hope for. Sky had made the most perfect wish, I had no more magic, no more Godhood trapt inside me. I was for the first time in so long, just Laurel. I had my first love Damon as my husband legally here on earth, my mates had all remarked me. As the reset caused by Sky’s wish had all but burned their bonds from me along with any other magic. The connections were different now, less strong than they were when I had been magical. But I liked things better now. Now I knew where I had come from, I knew the world was safe, and I could just enjoy my time with my loves.

No one in Fae remembered me. They remembered there was another apocalypse risk, and they called it the Battle of Light and Love because those two Goddesses had burst from their solitude and silence and had put the Fae back on the right path as the gods bent on destruction were conquered. It made for a pretty story, the Fire Fae riding their spirit horses across the plains as two Goddesses joined them to right the world. A truly magical fairy tale.

I rested my hand on my lower belly, that wasn’t yet starting to swell. I might not be magical any longer, and no one but my mates knew what we had done. It didn’t matter at all to me. I was happy. The magic of a well lived life was all I would need going forward.

And they Lived Happily Ever After.

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed!

Our lovely poly family and Melody next intersect in Broken Fairy Tales.

This was the first story I wrote start to finish, Melody was a spinoff of Laurel originally. Did you enjoy Laurel? This kitty is dying of curiosity to know what people think at the end.
