"Hey, Aunt May we're home!" Peter calls as we walk into our apartment and throws down his backpack. "By the way. Did you see the really cool car outside?"
"Cool is an understatement," I interject as I walk to the kitchen to make hot chocolate.
"Very true," Peter responds. He raises an eyebrow when he sees what I'm doing. "I still don't understand why you make hot chocolate all year round."
"Because it's good," I say, annoyed.
As I reach up to the cupboards to find my hot chocolate, I hear Peter start to say something to May and then freeze. I look over at him to see him looking shocked. I walk over and am about to say something when I see what he's looking at. Or more correctly. Who he's looking at.
Sitting on our couch is none other than the Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist himself. Tony Stark.
I almost dropped my hot chocolate packet.
"Ah, the Parker Twins."
Peter starts to speak but his nervous habit gets the better of him. "Um. What? What're you do- Hey I-I'm Peter."
"Tony."
"What are- What are you- What are you doing here?"
"I would like to ask the same thing." I pipe up. "With all due respect sir."
Tony chuckles. "Ohh, sir. I like this one."
I smile but I'm still trying to figure out what the heck is going on. What the heck is he doing here!?
"And to answer your question. I'd say it's about time we met. You've been getting my emails right?" Tony double-winks. "Right?" Realizing that he wants us to play along I respond.
"Yeah? Regarding the-" but I can't finish my sentence before Aunt May interjects.
"You didn't even tell me about the grant?"
Peter and I look at each other and I can tell he's just as confused as I am.
"Did you know about this?" I ask telepathically.
"No. Did you?"
"No."
"The September Foundation. Remember? You two applied and I approved." Tony says smiling, breaking our conversation. "So now we're in business."
Aunt May looks at us slightly irritated but as confused as we are. She can't stay mad at us for very long. We learned that at a very young age. "But you didn't tell me anything. What's up with that? Are you keeping secrets from me now?"
"Well, I just- I just know how much you love surprises so we thought we would let you know-" Peter says uncertainly.
"Anyways. What did we apply for?" Cutting Peter off so he doesn't mess up the web of lies we accidentally just created.
"Well, I came here so we could hash it out," Tony explains.
"Okay hash it out?" I say.
"Okay," Peter repeats
At this point, you could cut the tension in the room with a knife. Stark points to May. "It's so hard for me to believe that she is someone's aunt," He says while smiling at us.
May laughs with a slight bit of nervousness in her voice. "Well, we come in all shapes and sizes. You know?"
"Hey, I'm gonna cut you off right there," Peter says.
"Yeah?" Tony questions.
"Does this grant have, like, money involved or whatever?" Peter says while moving his hands around a lot. So I know he's nervous. Nonetheless, I shoot him one of my "Don't mess this up" ™ looks.
"Yeah." Even Stark seems to be unsure now. "It's pretty well funded. I mean look who you're talking to." He looks back at May. "Do you mind if I talk to them for a few minutes?"
"Sure."
