We step outside of the hotel, hand in hand. I am immediately hit with the smell of crisp air. The sky is a beautiful blue with barely a cloud in the sky. People are bustling around everywhere, some appearing to have a purpose while others just wandering. Peter looks at me.
"Where to first Essie?"
"Hmm." I look around and then down at my watch. It reads 12:38. "Well, it's around lunchtime and we haven't had anything to eat since those snacks on the plane so we should probably go get some lunch," I suggest with a slight shrug.
"Alright. Where should we go though?" Peter asks while looking around. I open my phone and look up places to eat in Berlin.
"Well, it looks like there's a deli down the street from here if you want to check that out."
"Sounds great! Although I highly doubt it can beat Delmar's." Peter jokes. I just as jokingly gasp.
"Of course not!" I say, playfully shocked. "Nothing could be better than Delmar's. How could you even suggest such a thing!" And for the second time today, I do the classic damsel in distress move of gasping while putting my hand on my forehead. Peter, naturally, just rolls his eyes. I laugh which causes him to laugh too. Then he starts pulling me along the sidewalk toward the deli.
When we arrive we see it's a cute little shop with big windows. We step inside and order our sandwiches from a very nice lady at the counter. I get a turkey sandwich and a root beer while Peter orders a beef sandwich with sprite.
We sit down to eat and just chat for a little bit. We theorize about why we are even here. All we've heard is that Captain America has gone rogue? Whatever that means. I tried to look into it and do some research before we left but I couldn't get into the S.H.I.E.L.D. files without getting caught.
After we eat, we decide to explore for a bit. Peter again whips out his phone and starts filming. Although, this time it's mainly just the sights and what we're doing. I even film for a little bit when he goes to get us ice cream. Not going to lie, as much as I make fun of Peter for it, "vlogging" is quite fun. Even if no one is going to see the videos. Maybe I should try it in the future...
The two of us talk with some of the natives. Luckily for us, they all spoke fluent English with a beautiful German accent. They showed us around and pointed out some of the historical places. Before we knew it, it was 7:00, and Peter and I were heading back to the hotel.
"Well, that was pretty neat!" I exclaim.
"I know right!" Pete sounds just as excited as me.
"We should come back another time," I suggest. "Y'know when we're not here for... whatever Mr. Stark brought us here for." I shrug with a slight laugh. I've always dreamed of seeing the world.
"Yeah, when we can just be tourists and not have to worry about superhero stuff." There's a slight hint of disappointment in his voice. Being Arachne and Spider-man is fun but it can be pretty stressful. Especially when you're only 15. Most people would say that we're way too young to deal with all of this and I can't help but agree... but duty calls. One day. One day we will be able to escape for a little bit. Together.
I sigh and almost get lost in thought before I remember that Peter is walking with me. Shaking my head to clear the cloudiness, I smile. "And Aunt May would be there! We can show her all of the places we discovered today!"
"Yeah! It will be fun!" This brings a big grin back to my brother's face. His smile lights up my world in a way that only siblings --twins-- understand. His laughter is all the music I will ever need. He is my other half. The other half of my heart. A world without him would be torture.
We walk up the stone steps into the hotel lobby. There are chairs, coffee tables, and even a bar. Although, of course, that's of no interest to us. I can't help but notice that Captain America is on the TV in the corner. Along with some guy with a metal arm... oh! I remember! That's the Winter Soldier. I tried to read up as much as I could about him before we came. Apparently, he was accused of killing the King of Wakanda and is now on the run with Captain America. I can only assume that's what Tony brought us here for... I shake my head to get rid of the thoughts. I'm not going to worry about that right now. All I will focus on is hanging out with Peter. We walk back up to the room, play cards, and eat some snacks until we're both tired enough to head to bed.
"Goodnight Peter," I say with a yawn. He starts to walk back to his hotel room.
"Goodnight Essie."
