It was Thursday night, the night before the homecoming game.Max was making me go so I see him play football once.
Josh and I were washing the dishes while listening to Blurryface.
When the album ended, I put on some blink-182 and continued drying dishes. "Can I ask you a question?" Josh looked at me.
"You're gonna have to ask it whether I like it or not." He chuckled and handed me another plate. "How would you feel if Debby and I got back together?"
I paused for a moment and thought about it. "I wouldn't mind it, I like her. She makes me miss Jenna less." He nodded.
And that's when I realized.
"You're back together already, aren't you?" Josh sheepishly smiled and finally nodded. Of course, they were.
During the past couple of weeks, Debby was over a lot. It was nice to get to know her and if they were back together, she'd basically become my mother.
It made me smile.
The doorbell rang and I dried my hands and went to answer it. I opened the door and Debby stepped in.
Josh was surprised to see her.
"Hey! Are you ready to go?" I nodded and pulled my sleeves down and threw on my docs. "Where are you two going?" He gave Debby a quick kiss and I fake gagged.
"I'm taking Tori shopping. She needs a dress for homecoming." Josh turned his head to shoot me a look.
"I thought you got a dress already! Isn't the dance tomorrow?" I shook my head. "Saturday. The game is tomorrow." Debby and I said our goodbyes and we left to go to the mall.
Debby wanted to check Macy's first and I remembered the time Jenna took me here for a girl's day.
"Do you and Jenna get along?" I asked while browsing the dresses. Debby nodded. "Absolutely! She's a sweet gal. I do miss talking to her."
Debby handed me a couple of dresses while I pulled out a pink dress. I hated wearing pink, but Debby's gaze on the dress told me I needed to try it on.
"I do have a concern," I piped up as we walked to the dressing rooms. "I don't know if I'm comfortable yet with having my arms exposed. Do you think we'd be able to find a cardigan or sweater to go with it?"
She nodded. "I'll look for some while you try on dresses." We split up and I went to try on dresses.
I tried on four of them and hated all of them. They were all too revealing in the chest area, one was scratching my armpits, one was so short, I thought my underwear was longer than the skirt, and two of them were too big.
"Tori? I found you a couple of sweaters. Having any luck?" I opened the door to grab the sweaters and looked at the pink dress.
It was a long dress with a lace skirt and had stars all over it. While it was a spaghetti strap, one of the cardigans that Debby brought me was the same shade as the stars on the dress.
I tried on the dress with the cardigan and walked out of the room to show Debby.
She looked up from her phone and grinned. "That's it. That's the one." I smiled and looked into the mirror.
I've been avoiding mirrors for so long because I hated seeing how bad I looked. Now I can see that I'm starting to look healthy.
I went back to the dressing room and changed back into my clothes.
Debby paid for the clothes, brought me home, and told me she'd come over on Saturday to help me get ready.
