There was the noise outside and our attention turned to the outside, this caused Benji to start crying as he reached his arms out for Diego who gladly took him.

"It's just Herb and Dot I'll be right back."

"I'm going with you," Five pipped up following Diego who still was holding Benji.

All durning this time, my mind couldn't help but wonder about the people I left behind. Of course my nerves got the best of me so I approached Sissy.

"Where's your phone? I need to make a call to some friends."

"Oh, yes of course. Let me show you."

I followed her to her phone that was in her badly destroyed kitchen and surprisingly untouched I sent her a small smile of thanks before dialing Pam's number.

"Hello?"

"Yeah, hi Pam."

"DOROTHY, JASON GET YOUR LITTLE BITCH ASSES IN HERE! I GOT NAOMI ON THE LINE!"

There were grunts and shuffles heard on the other line before I was bombarded by questions.

"Are you being held hostage?"

"How much money do they want?"

"How come you never told us you had another kid?"

After a few seconds of endless babbles I yelled out,"GUYS. No I'm not being held hostage, and I don't have another kid! He's my fifty-eight year old brother, who I consider to be my kid."

"I'm not even going to ask," I heard Pan say over the line after a moment of silence.

"Yeah I have a messed up family," I chuckled out before outing and getting somber,"did you guys get the letters?"

"Yeah Naomi we did," I heard Cindy sniffle out,"thank you so much for everything, for bringing joy into our lives."

"God fucking damnit Cindy,"I choked out wiping my tears away,"don't start crying or else I will too."

"Too late,"I heard Jason in a quivery voice,"we already have."

"We're gonna miss you darling," Pam said in a shaky tone and there was a moment of silence before she spoke again,"can Marie talk to Grace?"

"Yes, of course I'll come get her," I said before mentally calling Grace over.

"What's up momma?"

"Marie wants to talk to you," I said with a sad smile on my face and handed her the phone before leaving to give her some privacy. As I walked I saw Sissy and Harlan playing with toys and I sat down with them.

"It's not your fault you know," I whispered to her as she looked to me confused,"about Harlan. It's a genetic mutation, something that won't be discovered in a while."

She sent me a smile and asked,"will the future be any better?"

I just sighed and shrugged a bit,"it's better, not perfect. The best thing I can suggest is to keep your head low and live a happy life. But I can tell you this, just because of this doesn't mean Harlan can't excel in life."

She nodded and I pulled her into a hug and she weakly whispered,"thank you,"as her tears fell down onto my coat.

Before I could say anything back I heard sniffling only to hear sniffling behind me and I turned to see Grace who was clutching a friendship necklace she shares with Marie while her body shook.

"Oh baby," I whispered as she ran into my arms and sobbed her eyes out,"it'll be okay."

Harlan gently placed a hand on Grace's shoulders and she turned her head and gave him a teary smile and she wiped her tears away after a while to turn her attention to Harlan.
