17 | something between them
The day following the Ball Amara found herself confused. Spending that time with Cedric at the Ball or in the astronomy tower had been... exciting? Was that the right word to use? Did that explain the giddiness in her chest whenever she saw him? Hell, even in the beginning when she first started talking to him in class she found herself looking forward to the time to talk to him. It was so different from talking to Thomas or Theo, or even Draco.
Cedric brought the same comfort as them, but he brought a new exciting spark that coursed through her anytime she was around. At first she told herself that maybe it was because he was new to her. He didn't know her since forever, he didn't know her parents, their reputation, any of it. He was just some Hufflepuff boy with a bright smile who got her a little gift for her birthday even though they weren't friends and he'd just found out that same day. Who does that for someone just because they have one class together? Nobody but Cedric.
Two hands came down, smacking against each other palm to palm in front of her face. She jolted out of her thoughts, glaring over at Theo as he just laughed, "I've been trying to get your attention for about two minutes there. I asked how was the Ball?"
With a sigh she just shrugged, "It was okay."
"You sure?" Theo asked walking alongside her, "I saw you dancing with Diggory, then you both disappeared for the night. Smells fishy to me. Wait. If you combine a snake and a badger, what do you get? A snadger or a bake?"
Amara tugged on his ear making him wince, "I'm kidding! Jeez, anyway, so what happened anyway? I should be upset with you right now for ditching on my brother."
"I didn't ditch him," she rolled her eyes turning the corner into the library, "He was more interested in what the Avery brothers had to say."
Theo just nodded, well she was right on that. He'd seen her sitting alone for some time and he would've left his date to keep Amara company if it wasn't for Diggory swooping in. He didn't mind Cedric, no hard feelings toward the guy himself. But he always was very aware of the fact that his older brother, Thomas, has been in love with Amara Rosier since they were kids. Heck, everyone knew.
So, obviously, in his book Thomas and Amara will most likely get together. If it weren't for their feelings for each other it'd very well be because of their parents. Even Theo knew an arranged marriage when he saw one and he already knew that if Amara and Thomas didn't get together on their own—their parents would find a way to make it possible. But then there's Cedric.
Eager little Cedric Diggory with his slippery hands trying to get to Amara like it's a wall in the picnic. The Slytherin Princess. It made Theo laugh a little, but at the same time he had to applaud him. He's going to Amara head on while Theo's own brother can't even seem to make a move.
"So do you feel anything for Diggory?" Theo asked, not subtle at all. Oh well, best to get on with it anyway. Maybe he can help his older brother actually get a girl for once.
"I'm not talking about this with you," Amara whispered back as she looked around for their usual table. Theo rolled his eyes, swinging his cloak around purposefully to hit her with the end of it, "Why not? Aren't we best friends?"
"No, you're my best friend's annoying lit—Ow!!" She winced when he pinched her cheek roughly, "Watch what you say very carefully, Rosier."
"Yes, obviously we are best friends too. I'm just saying, I feel strange talking to you over who I like or dislike," Amara's cheeks flushed a light red as she found their table, "It's like telling my little brother about who I'm seeing."
"So you admit you're seeing Cedric?"
"That's not what I said," Amara was ready to argue as she checked the time and the empty table, "Where's Cho? I know it's late but she's usually here."
"Yeah but you basically did," Theo shrugged ignoring the second part she'd said, "You say Potato I say Tomato therefore you said it."
Her brows furrowed, "What are you talking about? Anyway, as I was saying, it's weird that Cho isn't here?"
"Don't know, don't care, hey! So does this mean we are going to have to cheer Diggory on tomorrow?" Theo asked, once again not listening to what she was seeing. Why he care that her friend Cho Chang wasn't in the library? He had bigger Snadgers to fry and it was this whole Amadric [Cedmara?] situationship.
"Theo, Cedric is my friend, just like you and Thomas," She pointed out. Theo looked disgusted, "Now that's just disrespectful considering I've known you quite literally all my life, but okay, you're just friends. Got it."
"But comparing Cedric to Thomas does not make me feel that great."
Amara furrowed her brows? What? What is Theo going on about? Would it really be that big of a problem if Cedric was a friend of hers? Come on, now she can't have other friends? Well to be fair she didn't think of Cedric as just a friend. Though she still couldn't tell if it was because of her little crush on him or if it's because that's how it really was.
She also really doubted they were anything more than friends. Just because she thought so didn't mean it was true. Hell, he did ask Cho to the Yule Ball.
And Cho did in fact tell her how wonderful Cedric Diggory was which had made Amara see that maybe her friend had a crush on him. Oh no.
Cho had talked so highly about Cedric, so excited and there she went. She took him with to the astronomy tower and left Cho alone on her date. How bad of a friend was Amara for trying to get closer to Cedric without considering her own friend's feelings? Or maybe, just maybe, Cho wasn't too focused on Cedric either?
She would've liked to hear Cho's thoughts on the dance but considering she wasn't in the library tonight she couldn't do that. What if she was upset with her because of the Ball?
