2| a mad-eye morning
"Disgusting," Amara let out a sigh as she plopped down at the table for breakfast. In her hands was her schedule, reading over her class for the day, "Ancient Runes, first period." She let out a sigh, it was probably her least favorite subject. It was hard to understand for her and such a bore, having it first thing in the morning wasn't something she was excited about, at all. Thomas looked up to her, schedule in his hands too, "But did you see our class arrangements yet? All Houses, usually we're just with Gryffindor but now we're stuck with the whole bunch."
Her brows furrowed, inspecting the paper further, "Wait, why?" He shrugged, "Maybe there was a smaller demand for those classes, Snape's requirements for Potions was so high not many students made the cut, they probably had to switch things around if students were choosing not to take or didn't meet the qualifications for some classes." She only nodded her head, half understanding what her best friend was telling her.
"I'm a bit worried to see how Defense Against the Dark Arts will go, with Moody that is," Amara voiced out to the others. The name 'mad-eye Moody' had been circulating the school since his arrival at the feast. She didn't know anything about the man but the name alone was enough for her worries to sink in. There were only three classes on their schedule for the day and after that their afternoon would be free. It was highly unlikely there'd be any homework, unless assigned by Snape, so there wasn't much worry to get to studying just yet. Amara took pride in her grades and O.W.L, naturally, she wasn't a gifted student-hence why she wasn't in Ravenclaw-it took her much studying to get her grades and as much as she hated studying she had to do it if she wanted to succeed in her classes.
"Have you read the news yet?" Draco asked dangling the piece of paper in front of the pair after lunch. Their class with Moody hadn't gone incredibly horrible, he was a scary and intimidating man, that's for sure, but he knew what he was talking about and Amara was happy with that. She took the article, skimming over it quickly, it had started about the mishap that had occurred at the Quidditch World Cup, just before school started,
"And there's a picture, Weasley!" Draco snatched the paper back from Amara's hands, showing it off to a few Gryffindor's in mockery. She listened half-heartedly to the teasing Draco was giving the ginger haired Weasley, Ron-a famous fourth year known for his friendship with Hogwarts own celebrity, Harry Potter. She knew little about the boy, only his backstory and his start at Hogwarts. Even if she had no connection with what happened to him as a child, she felt pity for the boy. Unfortunately, many of their families were part of You-Know-Who's alliance, even Amara's father being one. It wasn't a secret but it was also never spoken of, the most known members and their families being amongst the Slytherin House.
"You know your mother, Malfoy?" Harry had come to Ron's defense against Draco's torment. She reached for Draco, an attempt to stop him but he was a stubborn boy who rarely listened to others. She watched as the argument escalated between the group, a small circle forming around them.
"It amazes me how immature Malfoy can be at times," Thomas crossed his arms watching as the two argued, Theo made a step forward-ready to come to Draco's aid but Amara placed her hand firmly on his chest, keeping him from making a scene in front of others.
A scream ripped through the tension, her attention swapping back to where it had previously been placed. She searched for Draco, the blonde escaping her line of view. "Leave it!" Moody shouted as he came down toward the large group. Harry looked around confused, as did Amara looking to see where Draco had run off to.
"Not you-him!" Moody growled, jerking his thumb over his shoulder. Crabbe stood frozen behind Moody, hand stretched out ready to pick up a white ferret. Amara's eyes widened at realization, that the ferret might be Draco. She looked to Thomas who let his arms fall to his side, taking a step forward. Moody grumbled some words, wand pointed at Draco flying it ten feet in the air before falling to the floor with a smack and bouncing repeatedly. "Go get a professor!" Thomas shouted to Theo, pushing him forward causing the other to stumble as he ran off. Amara winced in pain as she watched what Moody did to the boy, claiming to only be teaching him a lesson.
"I-is that a student?" Professor McGonagall rushed over, Theo not far behind her. With a simple yes from Moody, McGonagall's eyes widened as she pulled her wand out, a moment later, Draco reappearing on the floor-blonde hair a mess in front of his now pink colored cheeks. Amara ignored the conversation happening between both professors as Draco stumbled onto his feet. Draco looked to Moody, "My father wil-"
"Oh yeah?" Moody made a move to come to the blonde boy. Draco let out a shriek, running behind Amara and Thomas for protection. She let her eyes roll as Moody tried coming toward them. She turned her back to him, pushing Draco roughly in annoyance. From behind she could hear Moody go on a mild rant about Draco's father, Lucius Malfoy.
"Oh no you don't!" Moody swooped in, catching Draco by his arm, shooting the older two Slytherins a look before he pulled him along in direction of the dungeons, "I've been looking forward to a chat with old Snape."
