play: yes to heaven by lana del rey
He was nervous, much more than he would like to admit. Amara didn't specify this as date but he can't help but feel like it might be? Even if it wasn't, he was still nervous as he climbed the steps up to the Astronomy tower. He ran his fingers through his a couple times to try and make sure it was all in place as he made his way up until he found her in view.
Amara sat there on the edge like it was the most normal thing to do and twirled her wand around her fingers. It was elegant, like her. The wand was a dark ash color and it was sleek except for the part where she held it. That end was engraved with carving of vines that seemed never ending and it was thin but sturdy.
"Wouldn't you rather sit, Ced?" Amara asked suddenly breaking him out of his small trance. With a smile he nodded as he came by next to her.
"I was admiring," he said casually as he sat down on the ledge. Amara didn't say anything for a second before giving him a nice smile, "You can admire from up close."
"That's what I'm doing right now," he said with a clear of his throat as he looked over to the setting sun, "I didn't expect you to be here already."
"I like watching the sunset, what about you? Were you just going to wait here till I arrived?" She asked looking over at him.
"That was the plan, but maybe I was just too excited to wait," Cedric said.
"I sense growing confidence, Diggory, I like it," Amara told him, "You've done amazing in the tournament."
"That's not why I'm feeling this way though," he said with a simple shrug, "but I appreciate your support in the tasks. I still don't think I would've been able to solve the egg if it weren't for you."
"You give me too much credit," Amara waved him off with a hand, "I'm sure you would've done great with or without my help."
"Maybe, but I prefer thinking of us as a team, you cheering me on while I do my best to impress you."
He spoke in a lighthearted tone and Amara laughed softly. She ran her fingers through her hair to get it out of her face, "Impress me?"
He smiled too even if it was cheeky, "Amara, we've spent seven years attending the same school and this is the first and last year I have to be able to leave an impression on you. Yes, this tournament is important to me but also... sitting next to you in Potions was probably the real highlight of my year."
"Cedric, you've always impressed me," Amara said honestly but he just shook his head.
"No, that's alright you don't have to say that to make me feel better. You're Amara Rosier," Cedric said as if still in disbelief that he has had the chance to get close enough to touch, "You just seemed so... out of reach all these years. I'll admit, I never put much thought into it but maybe I should have. If I just got the courage to approach you we would have had more time to get close to each other."
"You're... how shall I say this? You're well... you. Everyone loves you because you look cold on the outside but it's clear you're kind to those who come close. You're smart, so smart and you work hard. You don't use your name as an excuse to act a certain way. You treat everyone with respect and all this time I just thought that maybe... maybe if I got close then something would come of it and now it has. I don't expect you to feel the same Amara, but I just wanted to be honest and forward with how I feel."
She didn't say anything for a long moment and it was enough to stress Cedric out. Maybe he ruined this good atmosphere by being too honest.
"You've always... I don't know, you've always been in the back of my mind," Amara said making Credic release a small laugh in disbelief.
"I'm serious, you're an extraordinary wizard Ced, you always have been and you can ask anyone and they'll say the same. I've seen you in Quidditch too and you've done so well in this tournament but none of those reasons are why I asked you to meet me here today," Amara told him.
"I'll be honest, seeing you with Cho during the second task did make me feel a sort of way. I wasn't sure at first but I don't know... I just, as crazy as it sounds I was disappointed I wasn't the one there with you," Amara said watching him ready to apologize for something that was out of his control, "But I understand now that the reason why is because I like you."
With a nervous bite of her bottom lip, Amara cleared her throat and said, "And I'm not good at expressing myself through words so... um..."
"Can I kiss you?"
"Yes."
Cedric never felt so eager to do so. He closed the gap that stood between the two and scooted closer. Just like that, his hand came up to her jaw and Amara was leaning in.
It was shy at first, just a small taste but once he had gotten used to it he let himself relax into the kiss. It was soft yet eager and probably the best kiss Cedric has ever had. He's been with girls before but not like this.
He's not sure if it's because he's older, still only 17, but old enough to realize he liked kissing Amara. Her fingers brushed against the tip of his jaw as they kissed for a few more seconds before she was pulling away to catch her breath. They both had cheesy smiles as they sat back and away from each other. He brought his hand over his mouth feeling shy now as he looked at her but she was looking at the sunset making him look that way too.
Cedric cleared his throat awkwardly, "I know you have your own friends and... your own things to worry about but I'd like it if you could go out on a date with me, publicly."
"I'd love to," Amara said with a smile, "But after the third task."
His brows scrunched together in confusion, "Why till then?"
"Because we should focus on helping you win," Amara said, "That way I can say my boyfriend is a Triwizard champion."
He broke out in a grin, "Alright, I'll win the tournament and after I'll take you on a date—no I'll take you on seven."
"Seven?" Amara couldn't hold in her gasp of surprise as Cedric stood up feeling energized. She took his hand as he helped her up for the pair to leave the tower now that the sun was gone.
"One for every year at Hogwarts we wasted."
"I'll be waiting then, seven dates after the third task," Amara said as they began walking down the steps of the tower.
Cedric couldn't quit smiling, "Well now I can't wait for the third task."
