"I'm sorry, Miss Lucille. It's my fault for waking up late." Rian hung his head down while apologizing to their team leader.
Lucille looked at him intently and heaved a sigh. They were inside her office. She's sitting on her swivel chair looking up at him. "I just talked to Mr. Carreon. He really didn't like you coming in late on his very first day to be honest," she said.
Rian bit his lower lip, visibly shaking now.
"I know you didn't mean it, Rian." Lucille added with an apologetic smile. "You're a good employee even from the start. Unfortunately, Mr. Carreon doesn't know that so I suggest you go to his office and personally apologize."
He could only nod in total embarrassment.
And so that was what he did afterwards.
Although trembling in fear and shame, Rian took a lot of courage in and went to their supervisor's office. Veronica let him in immediately, as if he's already expecting his coming. He lowered his head down when he entered. He unconsciously took a glance at him and their eyes met. Rian almost froze from where he's standing.
He immediately lowered his head down, body shivering, as he walked closer to the table. He found it hard to look at their supervisor in the eye now. He's too embarrassed to do so.
"I'm... I... I apologize for being late earlier, sir..." he stuttered. Damn.
Mr. Carreon didn't answer so Rian went on. He cleared his throat before speaking again. "It won't happen again. I promise..." he said and slowly turned his eyes towards him.
Shit.
Why is their supervisor's gaze burning?
Rian was quick to look away. He couldn't look at him in the eye, not when he's looking at him like that.
Mr. Carreon finally spoke after what seemed like forever, eyes never leaving Rian's. "Why are you promising? Are you sure it won't happen again?" he asked, voice as cold as eyes, completely opposite to his feiry gaze.
Rian bit his lips again and blinked. He has a habit of biting his lips when he's extremely nervous or uncomfortable and he definitely was at that moment. Their supervisor's cold demeanor was making it worse.
"So, how sure are you that it won't happen again, Mister....?"
Rian blinked a couple of times more. Their eyes met for the nth time and the feeling was still the same. He's scared of the man in front of him. "Geronimo, s-sir..." Although stuttering, good thing he's still able to answer.
"Hmm... Mr. Geronimo..." he uttered, saying Rian's name like he's memorizing it. "So?"
Rian was close to tears now. The discomfort inside the room was suffocating. Their supervisor is suffocating. He bit his lips again and he could swear he tasted blood in it. He's that nervous. He closed his eyes, swallowed the lump on his throat and looked at their supervisor in the eye. "I-I will make sure it won't happen again, sir, or else you can fire me."
Wait... what?
Did that just come from him? Did he hear himself right?
Rian wanted to hit himself. How will he take his nonsense back?
Mr. Carreon raised an eyebrow. He also seemed quite surprised by what he said. He kept staring at Rian until his lips formed into a smirk. "Are you scared of me, Mr. Geronimo?" he asked afterwards, his tone menacing, chilling.
