The moment that Elena Rose and Nicholas started their affair El was recovering from a very traumatic event, she knew that what she was doing with Nicholas was wrong but she saw him as her distraction from everything wrong that happened to her. He was her escape, he gave her a reason to smile, he helped her heal without realizing it. Just as he helped her heal he is also adding to her trauma, and she does not know that yet.
