Amity's pov

I walked into the cafeteria for lunch and sat next to Boscha and Scara. I saw Luz walking past our table. She looked at me with a cute smile on her face. I didn't want to be rude so I smiled back. "Why did you just smile at super freak?" Boscha said with a confused look on her face. "Yea, do you have a crush on her or something?" Sarah replied back. They both started laughing.

"Well... I, she's..." I tried to defend myself but I couldn't think of anything to say. I just decided to stop talking before things got worse.

I started eating my lunch when I looked up to see Luz staring at me. I was kind of weirded out for a second, but she looked away pretty fast. She started to talk to Willow and they both looked kind of upset with each other. I decided to ignore it and go back to eating. But before I could put anything in my mouth, I saw Luz storming out of the cafeteria.

I started to get up to chase after her, but I felt someone tugging on my skirt, trying to hold me back. "Where do you think you're going?" Boscha asked. "Oh umm, to the bathroom," I lied. "Ok, but be back soon!" I faintly heard Boscha yell at me since I was already almost out the door.

I started running around the school, on the search for Luz. Honestly, it was kind of weird to see the hallways empty. Usually, it was packed and everyone would be screaming trying to hear each other over everyone else's screams.

I was about to give up, but I heard the front door slam and ran towards it. Yes! I had finally caught up with Luz. I followed her down a path that I didn't even realize existed. I saw Luz sit down and start to cry. I didn't know what happened between Luz and Willow, but I felt really bad for her. I started walking towards her. There were so many leaves on the ground you could hear anyone walking. I guess that was a bad thing since Luz quickly yelled at me to leave her alone.

"Oh um, I'm sorry. I'll go then." I said in a guilty voice. After I said that and started walking off Luz yelled back at me again. "Wait! Stay." So I did. I started walking towards her. There was a giant tree she was leaning against. It was really pretty. It had a bunch of pink flowers on it, and a whole bunch of them fell whenever the wind blew.

I sat down next to Luz. It was silent for a little bit before I decided to speak up. "What happened? With you and Willow." She sighed.

"Well Willow wanted to tell me something and I wasn't listening because I wanted to hear what Boscha and Sarah were saying about me. She got mad and snapped at me about how I've been obsessing over you ever since yesterday. I got mad at her and stormed out. Maybe I overreacted, but she just made me angry."

I noticed she started to cry more. "Hey, it's ok," I said to her as I put my arm around her.

We sat like that for a few minutes before Luz got up and wiped her tears. "Thank you, Amity. For cheering me up." She smiled at me and started to walk away.

I sighed. After she left, I started to feel empty. I don't know what it is. I feel something when I'm around Luz that I don't feel with other people. I guess I feel... happy.

After I finished just sitting and thinking, I got up and walked back to the cafeteria. I walked in and immediately started looking for Luz. She was sitting at her usual table, talking with Willow so I guess they made up.

I sat down at my table next to Boscha and Scara feeling succeeded. That good feeling quickly faded. I saw Boscha lean over to Scara and whisper something in her ear. I wish I could hear everything that she said but I could only make out "Isn't it weird that she and Luz came back at almost the same time. Almost like they were hanging out or something." It made me feel really awkward. Like I'm in the wrong for being friends with her.

But what made the situation escalate was when they smiled at me and acted like nothing happened. Do they really think I'm that dumb? Apparently, they did since they started up a whole new conversation. "Hey Amity, do you..." "NO, repeat what you said to Scara," I yelled, interrupting Boscha.

"What do you mean?"

"Dont play dumb, I heard some of what you said her."

"I didn't say anything you needed to hear"

"WHY WERE YOU TALKING ABOUT LUZ?!" At this point, the whole cafeteria started watching us, including Luz herself.

"Oh come on, you're not really gonna stick up for her, are you?"

"You just dont get it, do you? Luz doesn't deserve this. And you dont deserve me. So dont keep acting like you're not just using me for something more."

"You're making a mistake. You know that right?"

"Maybe, but at least I won't have to put up with your stupid games anymore," I said walking away in a random direction.

Luckily that direction I was walking was where Luz was. She ran over and hugged me so tight I could barely breathe. "AWWW, you didn't have to do that. I would have been fine," Luz said. Her voice sounded so cute.

"Hey, it's no problem," I said hugging her even tighter back. I was blushing so hard, I could tell. Her arms made me feel safe.
