"Ellis?" Richard called out as she walked into Ellis' house
"Hi" She sighed and walked up to him, wrapping her arms around him
"How's our girl?" Richard asked. He had finally divorced Adele and had moved in with Ellis and Meredith, seeing the girls as his own
"Still in bed" Ellis sighed "Richard, I don't know what to do anymore"
"I'll go check on her" Richard stated
"Can you- Should we bring her in?" Ellis asked
"Let me check on her" Richard kissed Ellis' forehead and walked upstairs. Next week Meredith would turn six. She had been laying in bed for a week and Richard desperately wanted her to get better by her birthday
He gently shook her awake but she wasn't responding
"Ellis, call 911!" He screamed as the girl wasn't responsive and her breathing was shallow
"What's wrong?" Ellis ran upstairs
"Ellis, call now!" Richard instructed and checked her pulse, he could see the girl was dehydrated
...
Richard was holding onto Ellis' hand as they were waiting for the doctors to bring them news about Meredith's condition
"Richard, Ellis?" Christopher walked towards them
"Oh- Please tell us that she's okay" Richard stood up
"She's in the PICU. She's hooked to IV fluids, we need to keep her here, she's not doing well" Christopher explained
"Can we see her?" Richard asked
"Of course. Follow me" He nodded
"Oh-" Ellis gasped as she saw her daughter laying in the big hospital bed "Richard?" She asked for his attention but he immediately went to the small girl "Richard?" She frowned
"Ellis- She looks so small" Richard frowned
"My girl-" Ellis tried again but Richard ignored her and she felt anger boiling in her body "I think it's a chronic illness" Ellis spoke up
"What chronic illness?" Richard frowned
"I don't know either, Richard. I just wanna help her" Ellis whispered
"Ellis, you have to compose yourself" Richard said but clearly offended Ellis
"Excuse me? My kid is lying in that bed!" Ellis snapped
"She'll be okay. We'll run tests until she's done. I promise" Richard walked towards Ellis and kissed her lips
"Hmm.. I hope" Ellis breathed "Can you go grab us some coffee?"
"Of course. I'll be back in a bit" Richard kissed Ellis's lips again and left the room
Ellis waited until Richard had left the room before she opened her purse and grabbed a bottle with meds and a needle. She filled it with the meds and injected it into Meredith's IV before putting everything away
"My poor honey.. You're such a sick girl" Ellis kissed Meredith's forehead
"How is she doing?" Carolyn asked as she walked in to check out the girl, followed by her husband Christopher
"She's so sick" Ellis quietly sighed
"I'm sorry" Carolyn gave her a sad smile in return as they both checked her out when the alarms started beeping
"She's getting even worse" Christopher frowned and Meredith's body started shaking "She's having a seizure! Get her mother out of the room!"
...
Richard was holding Meredith's hand as she was asleep in the big hospital bed, Ellis was asleep on the couch but he couldn't fall asleep, not before he knew she would be perfectly fine
"Hey sweetie, are you awake?" Richard said as he felt the girl's hand moving slightly
"Hmm" Meredith groaned and squeezed her eyes shut
"Shh, I'll turn off the lights" Richard said but she held a tight grip onto his hand, scared he'd leave
"Head hurts" The girl whimpered
"Let's page Dr Shepherd" Richard pressed the button and pulled the girl in his arms
"Hurts" Meredith whimpered and started throwing up all over herself
Right on time Carolyn walked inside and she quickly helped get the girl changed, frowning at Ellis who stayed asleep. Christopher had administered some more pain meds and watched as the girl sat down in Richard's arms
"I'll run more blood tests now" Christopher nodded and decided not to wait for Ellis to agree with what he said. Last time she had opted for no more blood results but a bone marrow puncture instead
Christopher didn't want to repeat that test before checking her blood first
"Richard- I'm scared" Meredith whimpered in his arms
"I'm so sorry, sweetie" Richard kissed Meredith's forehead as Christopher ran some bloodwork
It wasn't until an hour later that Ellis finally had woken up
"We got the results of your bloodwork" Christopher walked inside with an envelope
"Bloodwork?" Ellis frowned "No! We need to run extensive tests, not just blood tests! We'll never find what's wrong, don't you think I did them myself?" Ellis panicked
"Calm down, Ellis" Richard tried to calm her down but kept holding a whimpering Meredith in his arms
"She's such a sick girl! She needs treatment!" Ellis screaming, scaring Meredith
"She will get treatment" Richard promised her "We'll find out what's wrong with our girl" He nodded his head
"We need to hook Meredith up to fluids first. Her kidneys and liver are having a hard time, we need to treat that first" Christopher ordered and his interns started prepping Meredith "We need to put her on dialysis for her kidneys. She has only 15% of function left"
"Do what you need to do" Ellis whimpered "Will she need to stay for a while?"
"She'll stay here until she's stable, then she can continue treatment at home until her kidneys are strong enough again" Christopher informed
"Richard-" Meredith cried out as several hands kept touching her
"Shh, sweetie" Carolyn calmed Meredith down and slowly showed what they were doing so she would be less scared and would know what to expect
Sorry for disappearing! I'm just very busy as I'll be homeless if I don't find a new apartment and my exams start soon so yeah hahaha I have to do a lot
