Lyra
I woke to find that Lily and Marlene were sitting on either side of me. I assumed that Mary had just left or was coming, as Lily kept looking toward the door, worriedly.
"Hey, Ly." Marlene smiled sadly.
I smiled weakly. Of course, I didn't mean it. Lily seemed to be glaring at something behind me. Following her gaze, I spotted the marauders. Sirius and James had smug expressions, Peter wore a shocked expression of glee and Remus looked slightly sorry. Slightly.
I sprung to my feet, taking few long strides to get as far to them as Sirius and James would let me. Their wands pointed to my neck and forehead. Peter stared hungrily between us and Remus had a face full of dread. James then caught sight of Lily, who was helping Marlene try to pull me back.
"Oi, Evans-"
"No."
I shook my friends off of me. I directed my words towards the marauders. "I hate you." I glared at Sirius. "Especially you." Something flashed behind his eyes.
"As if I care about-"
"A lousy Slytherin? Well, sorry but I'm not one."
"No-"
"A muggleborn? Because I'm not one."
"No-"
"Well, let's try again, then. A death eater? I'm not even naïve enough for that."
"No-"
"Then, what?"
"You're a bloody- um, a bloody.. Blimey!" He rolled his eyes. "Who cares?"
"Say it! If you know why you hate me, then what is it?"
"Ly.." Marlene's voice held a warning tone.
"Fine!" Sirius strode closer to me. "You're a stupid, lousy girl who'll always be a Slytherin because you're so damn naïve!" I kept my face blank. A cruel sneer spread across his face. "And you'll, one day, be a death eater. A supporter of Voldemort, turning on all of us one by one. You'll probably turn on Evans, McKinnon and Macdonald first." He finished with a bitter laugh. "The price of befriending the cruel Lyra Davi."
It wasn't being accused of becoming a death eater, nor the insult of my former house that sent my fist flying at the boy in front of me. It was my loyalty being doubted. The fact that they assumed I'd turn on the only people ever there for me. Whom I never doubted for even a moment. Whom would probably always remain the only friends I ever had.
I punched as hard as I could, nailing him right in the nose. I heard a satisfying crunch, both him and James too surprised to hex me. I felt all the pain of being pushed away by Sirius, anger of being insulted and sadness of being bullied by them as if playing a sport fuelling my rage as I gripped the fabric of his shirt. I shoved Sirius to the wall in rage.
"How dare you question my loyalty." I felt my face burning red. "I would die before I betrayed my friends!" Black spots dotted my vision and I saw a dark red. I heard James finally regaining his senses, leaving Remus and Peter still staring in horror. I roughly threw Sirius down and I whipped around, plucking James' wand from his grasp and shoving him to the ground, both my hands pushing against his chest. I spun around again, to face Remus and Peter.
"Expelliarmus!" Peter's wand bounced from his hand, hitting the floor behind him. I turned to Remus, finding that his wand had appeared and was pressed to my heart. "Remus-"
"No. Lyra, you have to stop."
My hands clenched into fists, my nails cutting into the palms of my hands. "Stop? What, like you obviously told them?"
"You're ridiculous and-"
"No. This is stupid. You'd rather see me in pain than happy."
"It's not that. Well.." He trailed off.
"Well, what? You'll never care about me more than them bullying me."
Remus looked annoyed. "Well, what do you think? I've known them for years and you're not exactly kind to them-"
"Kind to them? Them? Right, then. Blimey, how could I be so stupid to be rude to the most self worshipping and arrogant prats whom can't set aside their pride for two whole minutes?" Anger filled my chest. "Choose then. Them bullying me so immaturely or dating me." I crossed my arms, already knowing his answer.
He looked down, in shame, not meeting my eyes. I felt a lump in my throat and tears began streaming. "That's what I thought." I sped by them, the marauders. I heard my friends call after me, but I jerked away from Lily's outstretched hand. Some people are meant to be enemies, I guess.
