Lyra gazed at Sirius as she put the final answers on her parchment. He hadn't looked at her once since the earlier class, along with the other three marauders. She watched intently as he gave James a thumbs up and Flitwick quickly collected the parchment, knocking himself over.

Time lapse

Lyra quickened her pace as she left her Defence against the dark arts O.W.L and sprinted down to the lake. Before long, her ears seemed to perk up and she heard a conversation from a great distance away.

"All right, Snivellus?" James' voice rung out as clearly as if she had been standing in front of him. She could almost picture him dropping his books and plunging his hand into his pocket for his wand as she heard James disarm him. Her heart hammered in her ears, blocking out some of the next words but she could just comprehend that Sirius had used some sort of spell on Severus.

The girl's features tightened with rage and she stiffened. She quickly nudged the red head next to her's arm. Tilting her chin towards the fight unfolding behind them. The red headed girl's face scrunched up into a matching expression of fury. They both sprung to their feet and ran toward it, hoping to stand up for their friend.

Lily and I hurried towards them, me falling behind because of my choice of taking my shoes off. I mentally curse myself for eternity. Lily made it there at least a minute before me, making her way to Sev whom was gagging on pink bubbles, with me hobbling and staggering behind her, hopping on one foot and tightly clutching my other ankle.

"Leave him ALONE!"

James and Sirius' eyes flew to Lily, occasionally going toward me but ultimately glued to her. I swore I heard Sirius snicker, directed toward me.

James' voice became maturer. "All right, Evans?"

"Leave him alone," Lily repeated. Great dislike was present in her expression. "What's he done to you?"

James mocked Lily, pretending to think about it. "Well, it's more the fact that he exists if you know what I mean.."

Many people laughed, but Lily didn't and nor did I.

Her voice was cold when she spoke. "You think you're funny, but you're just an arrogant, bullying toerag, Potter. Leave him alone."

James spoke up quickly. "I will if you go out with me, Evans. Go on.. go out with me and I'll never lay a wand on old Snivelly again."

Sev seemed to be crawling toward his wand.

"I wouldn't go out with you if it was a choice between you and the giant squid."

"Bad luck, Prongs." Sirius turned to Sev again. "OI!" Too late. I watched in shock as a gash appeared on the side of James' head. Only seconds before Severus was hanging upside down in the air.

"Let him down!" I murmured in agreement.

"Certainly." Severus fell to the ground and stood up for a moment before Sirius had used Petrificus Totalus.

"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Lily shouted. She took out her own wand and I felt myself do the same.

"Ah, Evans, don't make me hex you."

"Take the curse off him, then!"

I heard James mutter the counter-curse.

"There you go. You're lucky Evans was here, Snivellus-"

Severus furiously cut him off. "I don't need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!" I felt my mouth drop open and Lily blinked, but Snape then addressed me. "Not to mention foul half breeds." Hurt filled my eyes as I heard Lily retort back. I heard buzzing in my eardrums as I saw Lily turn on her heel, hurrying away. I turned to follow before I heard Snape call my name.

"What do you want?" I hissed through my teeth. "Why are you talking to a foul half breed? Like yourself, if you didn't realize." I turned away, calling back over my shoulder. "It was you who suggested cutting my losses. Well, watch me." I didn't look back.
