The war know as, The Dragonfly Revolt enters its second year, the Butterfly forces have suffered heavy defeats, and are being forced fight on two fronts thanks to the monster rebellion, but they were still in the fight and weren't gonna give up anytime soon.
The Dragonfly forces launched an incursion into Butterfly kingdom territory, using their airships, they were able to transport 9k soldiers behind Butterfly lines and seize the Hill of Flags and fortified it with cannons and garrisoned it with a few giant magical mechs and 2 Chaos consortium members, the Butterfly forces send out a host of 15k soldiers to retake it, the battle was long and grueling, the Butterfly forces suffered 10k losses, the remaining 5k managed to successfully retreat from the battle, while the Dragonfly forces only suffered 4k casualties.
With the Hill of Flags secured, the Dragonfly forces launched forays into the northern Butterfly kingdom territories, they attacked the northern countryside, and occupied many of them, then they attacked northern cities and occupied many of them, and would've prepared an attack on Butterfly castle and achieve victory had their forces not been bogged down in putting down rebellions.
One of the occupied cities, Vraeden, a city made of 30k people (most of which were refugees from war zones), Vraeden was the most uncooperative city under the Dragonfly occupation in the war an would rise up in rebellion; the Dragonfly forces would quell the rebellion; but as months passed Vraeden would rebelled again and again, bogging down the Dragonfly forces, halting their offensive in the north, and giving the Butterfly forces time to finally put down the monster rebellion, allowing them retake most of the northern territories and refortified them; Asterid was furious at the Vraeden's continued defiance and how its rebellions erased five months worth of progress, snatching victory from her grasp and prolonging the war; and so she decided to make an example out of the city.
she sent them an ultimatum, demanding the leaders of Vraeden to cease their rebellion and cooperate, or face the consequences; the leaders Vraeden refused, Asterid already knew that they would refuse, and so marched to the city with a legion of soldiers, the people of Vraeden prepared for a battle; But then, Asterid flew high above the city, then she pointed her sword down towards the city and unleashed a huge beam of magical fire down onto the city destroying it in the matter of seconds; leaving only a giant smoldering crater where the city of Vraeden once stood; then Asterid made a speech to her soldiers, that if anyone ever dares to rebel against the Dragonfly forces, they would suffer the same fate as Vraeden did.
The events of that day were forever known as the Tragedy of Vraeden.

In the following days of the tragedy of Vraeden, Asterid would become more ruthless, ordering the executions all of war prisoners, and implementing three new war policies, burning anything that couldn't be taken to the ground, giving no quarter to the enemy in battle, forcing all civilians in occupied territories into force labor to fuel the Dragonfly war machine; Asterid's soldiers and her Allies were at first wary with her actions and policies, but remembering what she did to Vraeden, fearing her wrath they followed along and became just as ruthless themselves.
