Last night was as beautiful as can get, considering that I am engaged to someone I haven’t even dated. I have never even had a boyfriend and now I am engaged, I deserve a reality television show because my life is eventful I must say.
After chilling with Bradley outside the hall for close to 3 hours, we all went to our homes and I slept immediately after my shower and I just woke up, and it is already midday, that time I had a 8am lecture. Why didn’t they wake me up? I quickly took a shower, then right after getting dressed in a simple pair of black ripped jeans and white oversized t-shirt, well it is not really oversized, it is Bradley’s t-shirt, the one I wore at the afterparty at his home. I also put on some black and white RedBat slides. I went to the lounge where I found the whole family gathered watching tv, by whole family I mean dad and my brothers because mom wasn’t there. They were catching up on the previous days soccer matches.
Me: “Dad, why did you ask for my timetable if you won’t put it to good use?”
Dad: “What are you talking about Ledi?”
Me: “Dad” I whined. “I had an 8am lecture today, and you didn’t wake me up.”
Dad: “I’m so sorry baby, I totally forgot. Let me take you out for lunch to apologize for that.” This sucks, dad knows that I would never say no to free food, and he is using that to his advantage.
Me: “You’re not playing fair but okay.” Just then my phone rang from my back pocket. I heard Phila saying that he is coming with us as I answered Bradley’s call.
Me: “Bradley Smith…” He chuckled sexily.
Bradley: “I wouldn’t mind you calling me Babe.”
Me: “Whatever, to what do I owe the pleasure of being called by you Sir?”
Bradley: “No Ledi, don’t do that, you’re making me feel old.” I laughed.
Me: “How are you doing Bradley?”
Bradley: “We will work on you calling me Babe, I am good my love, how are you?”
Me: “I am okay thanks, we agreed on taking things slow Bradley, no pressure.”
Bradley: “Yes, we agreed but does that mean I can’t use endearing words on you?”
Me: “No, you can by all means but please don’t rush me into using them as well, I am still trying to get used to having a man in my life other than my dad and brothers.”
Bradley: “Okay babe, I understand and I am sorry for pressuring you.”
Me: “It is okay.”
Bradley: “Please have dinner with me tonight, any place of your choice. I just need to be in your company and Friday is too far.” It is really confusing how I always want to be next to Bradley but at the same time I feel like that would be rushing things.
Me: “Okay…” I said without thinking twice and I bit my tongue afterwards.
Bradley: “Great stuff, I can’t wait. Please let me know what to wear at least an hour before I pick you up.”
Me: “What time will you pick me up? I am going out for lunch with dad and the brothers so I need to know when to get ready.”
Bradley: “6pm on the dot.”
We ended the call shortly afterwards.
.
Lunch was nice, I enjoyed spending time with my brothers but sadly they are going back to Johannesburg tonight. See, they live with their mom in Kelvin, so I only see them occasionally. After seeing them off, I went in to the house and straight to my room. I picked an outfit, nothing fancy, just a simple black one shoulder sleeveless jumpsuit with a bow in the front that I had gotten a few years ago for my brother Sanele’s graduation party and my illusion block heels. I then took a scorching hot shower, and proceeded to get dressed, after putting everything that I needed in my small clutch bag, I went to sit in the lounge with the parents.
Dad: “Here I was thinking you were sleeping again.”
Mom: “My beautiful princess, where are headed looking so gorgeous?” I blushed and answered.
Me: “Oops, I forgot to tell you guys, my fiancé is taking me out for dinner.” They looked at each other and smiled. “What?”
Mom: “Oh nothing.” She gave me an even broader smile.
Not long after that short conversation with the parents, my phone rang and Bradley was calling. Honestly speaking, calling him by his first name is awkward and I am not getting used to it at all, because at school he was Smith The Head Boy, and I was Ngcobo the Head Girl, we have never used first names until after school. Anyways, dad insisted that he come inside and ask them for permission to take me out so I went to stand by the front door, waiting for him. He parked out front and got off the car walking straight to me, his gorgeous ocean blue eyes glued to me. When he reached me, he pulled me into an unexpected hug that was comforting and warm I didn’t want to let go but I had to when I heard Dad clearing his throat. We both turned to look at both mom and dad standing there with smiles on their faces.
Bradley: “Good Evening Mr and Mrs Ngcobo, how are you doing this evening?” He asked looking nervous, which is a super funny sight because Bradley is the most confident person I have ever met in my life. You can see it from the way he walks, talks and just generally carries himself, so seeing him so nervous is very funny.
Dad: “We are doing well Smith Junior, how are you?” dad asked looking amused.
Bradley: “I am well thanks, uhm…” He scratched his head and messed his hair up. “Mr Ngcobo, may I please take Naledi out for dinner, I will be sure to bring her back early.” He said very quickly without even getting a breath in. I wanted to laugh so bad, but I kept a straight face. Dad just laughed, followed by his wife.
Dad: “Of course, you don’t even have to ask, traditionally she is already your wife so who am I to say no.” He said whilst pulling Bradley in to a short man hug type thing and I heard Bradley heave a deep sigh of relief. We then said our goodbyes and left for the Grill Room at Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga. Almost an hour later, we are seated at our table. He is drinking a Corona with a slice of lemon, and for the first time ever, I am having a glass of Natural sweet white wine. I never thought in a million years that I would ever taste alcohol let alone enjoy it but here I am enjoying this glass. Our starters arrived and we continued with our flowing conversation and later ordered our mains. After we finished eating our mains, Smith paid then we went back to his car. This when we had a heart to heart, he mentioned that he had quit from the Irish team that he had recently started playing for, and how he was able to register last minute at UKZN, because of his rugby scholarship. Following that conversation, we both agreed that it was safer for him if I slept over at his home, so we drove from Umhlanga all the way to Amanzimtoti and by the time we got to Toti, I was almost falling asleep. He parked in the garage then we used the door leading into the kitchen, went past the lounge where we found Blake watching tv, then we went straight to his room. He allowed me to take a shower first then when I was done, he went in to take a shower as well. I took that opportunity to call my parents and let them know that I am safe and will be spending the night at Bradley’s home, and trust my parents to think that Bradley and I are having sex already.
Mom: “Ledi, don’t rush into getting intimate, you have your whole life to get intimate with Bradley, so don’t feel pressured into it just because you’re engaged.” I regret putting my phone on speaker because Bradley walked in right before mom started talking. SMH, I did mention that my parents live to embarrass me. Bradley just laughed it off and as soon as the call was over, he came to sit next to me.
Bradley: “I know you are a virgin and I respect that, never ever feel like you are pressured to sleep with me, and if for any reason you think I am pushing you to sleep with me, please let me know. I know I am a horny teenager, but above all else, I love you Naledi and I am in this for the long haul."
