Letting you go was like kissing death on the mouth.

Sridevi held her head in her hand as she huffed out a breathy chuckle.

"Are you there Mrs. Shetty?"

"Yes- yes. By when can I expect the amount to reflect in my bank account?"

"Once your son has lawfully wedded Gopal Krishnan Reddy's daughter, we shall credit the amount to you."

"Oh, okay. Thank you."

"See you at 6 in the morning Mrs. Shetty."

Shyam hung up the call as Sridevi lay on the bed, with her feet dangling off the edge. As the new dawn pulled up, it brought a deft free life for her and her son, the mere thought of finally living a life without threats caused her to breathe out a relieved sigh. Whatever happened years ago could finally rest somewhere back in her head, maybe she would no longer see her husband's bashful face in her dreams, she thought. She sat up straight with a jolt as she remembered waking her older son, to let him know that he was getting married within the next two hours. She got on her feet as she strode out of her room, marching towards the staircase leading up to Amartya's room when her gaze drifted towards the mahogany door of the hall that was left ajar.

She swiveled on her feet before she stalked back to her room for her phone. She rubbed her temples vigorously as the line on the other hand rang, making her heart beat faster by the second. She could not afford anything to be going wrong, at least not today, when she was finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Hello?"

"Where are you at this hour?" Her voice boomed across her bedroom, as it paced across the white marble floor expecting an answer as soon as she had blared into the mouthpiece.

"Amma, listen -"

"Ved Vasudev Shetty! When will you stop making my life miserable?"

"Amma, we have a medical emergency, Anna -"

"What? What happened to Amar? Tell me he is fine or else-"

"No, no, Amma please breathe. He is fine, it's just that - his manager is in the OT and he requires a heart transplant -"

"Ved, I do not care who requires what right now, but I require both of you to be home right at this minute."

"Amma, please don't worry, we are fine. But Anna can't move from here, he needs to sign some documents before they begin the surgery."

"Ved, do you remember how Gopal had told us his health was critical and the wedding might take place sooner than expected?"

"Yes Amma, but we can inform Anna about the preponed wedding later right, not that it is happening right at this moment -"

"Shyam called. Gopal had suffered a cardiac arrest after an argument with his reckless specimen of a son we saw last night. The wedding is taking place at 6 in the morning and I need Amar and you to be home right now!"

"Amma, this is not - this is not fair of you!"

"What!" She barked.

"Do you have any idea why Anna was admitted into the hospital two weeks back? Because you kept broaching him about this stupid wedding he so does not want to be a part of. Just because he honors you does not mean you will impose yourself on him without even asking him what he truly wants!"

"Mind your words if you want to live under my roof Ved Vasudev She-"

"Anna is not your genie Amma! He is not the solution to your problems."
