Long thick black hair glossing in the sun, the blazing midday sun shone relentlessly on the hikers. The roads shimmered in the heat of the midday sun. The sunlit skyscrapers pierced the hot, blue sky. The glass shade of blue gazed across the trees. My mom's friend's family took a vacation that allowed them to explore California so they stayed at our house. Here is my story.
My name is Leo and I am 12 years old. I'm homeschooled. I have lived in California all of my life and for the first time, I think we are going to run out of water. For weeks now we have been told not to use water, we were told not to fill up swimming pools and we are suggested to take showers twice a week. At least we can still use drinking water because I think they will limit drinking water. My mom's friend, Claire, and she met at college. They have been friends for a long time. They want me and Athy to be friends. Athy is my mom's best friend's daughter, even though we don't like each other and they know it. We get into fights all the time. Athy thinks she is older than me, only she's 15 and I'm 12, there's only a 3-year age difference.Claire, Athy, and her dad are staying for 5 days. They were thinking about staying longer but they decided to stay for 5 days. While Athy and I are outside our parents are talking about the shortage of water, and we don't know what to do about it next. Athy turned to me and said in a proud voice ¨I'm not worried about the water¨ ¨What do you mean you're not worried?!¨ I shouted. I stared at her and she gave me a confused look ¨well it's not like we live here so we can just go home it's not that big of a deal¨ I looked at her and walked away.
