chapter six

I woke up still feeling those butterflies from last night.

We didn't finish the maps, since after that happened, we sat there smiling and decided to turn on the radio and fell asleep. The map got barely done, just basic layouts. He scurried out of the house around 3AM, and made sure to cover me up with the comforter and peck my head and remind me that he's not letting me walk all the way to school again. There was a sweet side to the intense persona he puts out to everyone.

I quickly put on some clean clothes and aggressively brushed my hair, since I was cutting it close to 7:30 already. Slipping down the hall in my socks to grab a snack from the fridge caught my dad's concern.

"What's the rush?" Dad said turning off the sink.
"Woke up late." casually, as I grabbed a granola bar from the cabinet.
"Oh, did you finish your project last night?"
"Umm...almost. Just need some final touches and it's ready to be turned in!"

My backpack sat at the table and i grabbed it quickly. Just then, I heard Eddie's tires screech down the street.

"Gotta go, Dad!" I said rushing to go grab my shoes from my room.
"Oh, okay honey. You're getting a ride?"
"Yeah, my friend offered last night!"
"Okay, be safe!" he said suspiciously and I booked it out the door as fast as I could.

Eddie watched me run to the car, shoes in hand and backpack about to slip off my shoulders.

"Whoa, whoa, whoah." Eddie said flinching as I hopped in the car.
"Drive!" I said panicking, looking to the window to see if my Dad was watching.

He laughed as he shifted the car out and started pulling away. Eddie turned the radio up and started drumming on the steering wheel, patting his hands to the beat against the leather. The car sharply turned into the driveway next to the Hawkins High School sign.

"So, I was thinking maybe we finish the rest of the map at my place." grabbing his bag from behind his seat.
"To work on the map or for something else, because we know how that turned out yesterday." I joked stepping out. Before closing the door I looked up at him. He started smiling.
"Something else would be cool too."
"Eddie!"
"You offered..."

I shut the door hard and he followed to meet me on my side, pulling me in and kissing my forehead. He ruffled my hair afterwards and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, I figured not to push him off this time and wrapped my arm around his side.

Walking into school was fucking terrifying. Dirty looks surrounded each corner. I looked down to ignore it, Eddie on the other hand praised it, flipping them off. He lifted his arms off my shoulders to let me take my backpack off once we got to my locker.

"Is it like that every day?" I asked dialing in the code.
"Not always, most people pretend I'm not even there." he shrugged grabbing a plastic baggie of cereal from his bag and started snacking. He moved his hand forward to me to offer some with which I shook my head no.

After finishing up at my locker, we started heading down the hall to class only to be bumped into Jarred, the reddish haired kid from Hellfire.

"Well, well, well." he said glancing back and forth to us.
"Fuck off, Garrett." Eddie snapped continuing to walk forward, now grabbing my hand to stay close behind him.

The second bell rings right when we reach my class door. "Don't be late." I say smiling as he lets go of my hand to run off to his classroom. I sighed heading my way to the back. Robbie flashed a kind smile at me, which I returned back. Class started with Ms. Kerry announcing for us to continue working on our projects and to come up and ask her for any questions. Robbie turns to me excitedly to pull out a piece of graph paper with writing on it.
