chapter thirteen

Dad came into my room to wake me up. I was back in my bed, again, assuming Eddie placed me there. My hands made their way up to my eyes to rub them before I practically passed out from the pain forgetting what was there.

"Fuck!" I yelled loudly.
"Jessica." Dad said sternly.
"Sorry, it just hurts so fu-...reaking bad." I said laying back down.
"Go take a shower and I'll help you put the ointment on when you're out." he says helping me out of bed.

He leads me to the bathroom before walking back to his room for something. The shower felt so nice, partly because my mouth was excruciatingly dry and I kept letting the water hit my tongue. I wrapped myself in a towel after finishing and looked at my reflection in the steamed up window. The swelling was already getting better probably from the amount of ice packs that were consistently placed on it. I could also see clearly again and was able to see the scar down my lip and the super dark purple circles around my eyes. My jaw was a light blue as well. Trent really rocked my shit.

I made my way into my room and put on a pale green undershirt and a gray zip up hoodie. My comfiest pair of navy blue sweatpants looked so amazing so I couldn't resist wearing those either. I made my way to the kitchen and saw there were two little pills laid out on the counter next to a glass of water and a plate of scrambled eggs. The sight made me smile and I walked over to Dad who was cleaning the dishes and hugged him, which he returned the gesture. I swallowed the pills and took the meal to the dining table where I sucked the water down as fast as possible. What the hell is going on? I scarfed down the eggs as well and went to the sink to fill up some more water. I glanced at the clock which read 2:48PM.

"Did I really sleep that long?" I ask completely shocked. He helps me put the ointment on my wounds.
"The medicine probably relaxed you. You did take it last night?" he asks and I quickly nod.
"Okay, well sit on the couch and relax for a little bit. I'm gonna catch some sleep before heading out." he says looking exhausted.
"Goodnight, Dad."
"I love you, sweetie."
"I love you too."

The clock gets to 10 after school ends and I wait by the window for Eddie to pull up. He was taking a lot longer then it usually takes to drive from school to here. 30 minutes go by and Eddie rolls his way in. He jumps onto the sidewalk while his hair bounces with each step. He's wearing his Black Sabbath shirt from last night and the same jeans from yesterday. And his usual rings of course.

"You actually went." I joke opening the door for him.
"You're feeling better." he snaps back playfully.
"Anything to report?"
"Uh..." he thinks for a moment, "Bad news, Mr. Traleck sure did assign a shit ton of work, most likely in spite. Good news, Trent's nose is broken and everyone is talking about how badass you are!" Eddie smiles giving me a high five.
"Nice work, Lawson." he jokes.
"You finished the job." I laugh. "Oh, shit! Your show is tonight! We have to get ready." I say wide eyed.
"No, you're staying here to rest." Eddie says furrowing his eyebrows.
"But I don't want to miss the greatest band in the world." I say holding my hands to my heart which makes him blush.
"If you're really up for going..." he says pulling my hips in.
"Let's go get ready, rockstar." I hug him.

I help Eddie tease up his hair and make it stand up more. He crinkles his face as I spray the hairspray and coughs after. Dad leaves for work early, telling Eddie to keep a close eye on me which he assures him he will. Eddie rushes to the bathroom to change into some clothes he brought from home, which is why he took so long coming back to the house. I look at myself in the mirror and put a ton of cover up on anywhere that had bruises. My eyes were too difficult to cover so I put as much as I could and put on a light blue eyeshadow to try and make it seem like it was apart of my makeup. My hair was teased to messy perfection and I put on a dark pink lip to blend the scar in. I grabbed some black jeans and a tight gray shirt. Eddie knocked to see if it was okay to come in.

"Come in!" I say grabbing my sneakers.
"Oh wow..." he says checking me out.
"Can you see the bruises?" I say walking up to him. He grabs my chin and looks in my eyes.
"You look so good." he says smirking. His other hand makes its way down my spine.
"Not now, Eddie." I smirk back at him. He sighs and then kisses me.
"Let's hit the road."

We roll up to nice little house where the three boys from Hellfire sit in the garage.

"You're late, dude!" Gareth says.
"Just load up your shit." Eddie snaps stepping out. The back doors of the van open up and Jeff stares at me.
"Oh, hi, Jessica."
"It's Jessie." Eddie says annoyed pushing a piece of the drum kit into the van.
"Sorry...Jessie. I heard what happened. That was pretty metal." Jeff smiles at me and Gareth and Grant nod in agreement.
"Oh, thank you?" I say smiling at them.
"It's a good thing." Eddie whispers sitting back down in the driver's seat.
"Wait, if she's sitting with you, where am I going?" Gareth asks confused.
"In Jeff's car, dipshit. Now drive!" Eddie says annoyed shifting into gear.
