Kenma was sitting on his bed playing a game when he heard a knock on his door.

"Come in," he mumbled.

Messy black hair popped through the doorway, and Kenma smiled when he saw his best friend. He put his game control down and shifted himself to fully face his friend.

Kuroo smiled at him and sat down on the bed. "Hey."

"Hey."

"Are you ready for tomorrow?"

Kenma shrugged. "I dunno. I just want it to be over with already."

"That doesn't answer my question." Kuroo raised a brow. "I already know you're tired and want to get this over with. But are you okay?"

Looking away from Kuroo, Kenma curled up and rested his head on his knees. Kuroo watched him with concern, like always.

"I'm... Kind of scared. You know I don't usually worry, but well, something could go wrong."

There was silence for a moment before Kuroo pulled Kenma into a tight hug. Only Kuroo, Kenma thought. Only Kuroo could hug him like this without getting punched in the face.

"Nothing will go wrong," Kuroo whispered.

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because if something does go wrong, the doctors will have to deal with your ghost haunting them. And no one wants that."

Kenma scoffed and hugged Kuroo back. "Nothing will go wrong."

Kuroo had been pacing for hours, unable to stay still.

"Kuroo."

The boy paused and turned towards Akaashi and Bokuto, who were waiting with him.

Akaashi gave him a sad smile. "I know you don't want to hear this, but you need to calm down. Your pacing won't make the surgery go any quicker."

"I know, I know, but I can't help it."

Bokuto reached out to grab Kuroo with one hand and pointed to the chair next to him with the other. "Sit."

Hesitantly, Kuroo obeyed and sat next to his friend. He ran a hand through his messy hair and sighed.

"It'll be okay," Bokuto muttered. It was weird for him to be more composed than Kuroo. "They'll be done soon, right? So we just have to be patient."

"Bokuto's right."

Kuroo huffed. "Since when are you wise?"

Bokuto grinned and crossed his arms. "I'm always wise, right Akaashi?"

Hiding his smile, Kuroo rolled his eyes.

Akaashi nodded. "There's our Bokuto."

Thirty minutes later, a nurse walked into the waiting room. Kenma's parents went to go talk to her.

"The surgery is over, and it went well," his mom said as they walked back towards the kids. "He's not awake yet, but his father and I are going to go sit with him for a bit. When he wakes up I'll let you know."

Kuroo nodded his head. "Thank you."

With a grin on his face, Bokuto turned to Kuroo. "See? We told you it would all be fine!"

"Yeah... I just hope he wakes up soon. I really wanna see him..."

Smiling softly, Akaashi pat his shoulder. "You'll see him soon enough. We just have to be a bit more patient."

~

Kuroo gripped Kenma's hand and sighed. It had been five hours since the surgery, and he still hadn't woken up yet. Bokuto and Akaashi had to leave, and Kenma's parents went to their house to grab some things they need.

Sitting alone in the dark room, Kuroo studied his friend. He layed his head on his arm, his hand still holding Kenma's.

"Please wake up soon. I miss your snarky comments. I miss you."

~

Kuroo woke up to a hand gently squeezing his. He lifted his head up to see Kenma frowning at him, bleary eyed and tired.

A grin spread on his face, and Kuroo sat up. "Hey Kenma. Finally awake huh?"

His small friend punched his arm. "I woke up before you." Kuroo winced. Kenma sounded rather awful.

"Do you need anything? How much pain are you in? I can-"

"Kuroo." Kenma smiled softly. "Stop being a mother hen..."

"Sorry, sorry. But do you need anything?"

Kenma sighed and shook his head. "Not really, I'm fine. Are you okay?"

"What?" Kuroo frowned.

"You were really out. And you look awful."

"Ah Kenma, always the soothing type." Kuroo smirked and let go of Kenma's hand. "I'm all good. Just worrying after you like the mother hen I am."

"Oh so you finally admit it."

"Hush now, Kenma. You shouldn't be straining yourself. Your sass can wait," Kuroo teased.

Kenma rolled his eyes. "If I didn't have IVs in I'd strangle you," he muttered.

Kuroo feigned a gasp and put a hand to his heart. "I think that surgery messed with your brain! The Kenma I know would threaten to beat my up like a video game character."

"That can be arranged."

"Ah, it is you." Kuroo laughed and crossed his arms. "I brought my laptop. Wanna play a game?"

Kenma smiled. "Yeah, I do."
